Syria Heating Up

*****quote*****
A Russian aircraft-carrier and other warships have reached waters near Trondheim in Norway and will soon head towards the UK.
The naval task force from Russia's Northern Fleet is expected to sail through the English Channel, then down to Gibraltar, and through the Mediterranean Sea to the Syrian coast.
The carrier Admiral Kuznetsov is escorted by seven other Russian ships.
The group will join the Russian combat mission in war-torn Syria.
It is the most powerful Russian naval task force to sail in northern Europe since 2014, Russia's Nezavisimaya Gazeta daily reports.

The aircraft-carrier is the only one in the Russian navy. It can carry more than 50 aircraft and its weapons systems include Granit anti-ship cruise missiles.
Next in the flotilla, in terms of firepower, is the Russian nuclear-powered battle cruiser Peter the Great.
The other Russian surface ships in the group are: two large anti-submarine warships - the Severomorsk and Vice-Admiral Kulakov - and four support vessels.

When the group reaches Syria the Russian navy will rival the firepower of the US Sixth Fleet in the region, Russian media report.

DonDiego hopes that his popcorn supply is sufficient to watch all the goings-on over there. It's b'ginning t'look like it might be a-gettin' serious o'er there.

With the Russkis committed to their support of President Assad and the US and its, apparently unplanned, ally ISIS intent on overthrowing him, this is unlikely be anything like a repeat of Libya.

Before The Hillary, Libya was a secure, prospering, secular Islamic country and a critical ally providing intelligence on terrorist activity post–September 11, 2001.
Libyans enjoyed a higher standard of living than two-thirds of the planet. In 2010, Libya ranked 53rd in the UN’s Human Development Index among 163 countries. With life expectancy at birth at 74.5 years, an 88.4% adult literacy rate and a gross enrolment ratio of 94.1%; Libya was classified as a high human development country among the Middle East and North Africa region.
After The Hillary, Libya is a failed State and safe haven for ISIS and its related groups.

With the Russian naval power equalling the US naval power off the coast of Libya, thing's'll be different this time. DonDiego suggests those readers who's property may contain a fallout shelter installed by previous residents clean it up a mite and buy a few supplies, . . . jes' in case.

Oh, and can someone remind poor old DonDiego why it is so important for the US to remove the elected President of Syria from office by force of arms. Is it as important as the previous removal of the Leader of Libya?
Why do we or the Russians care so much about Syria?

Syria suffered the greatest drought in a century resulting in countless farms being destroyed, rampant unemployment, and a population of starving people who were systematically persecuted by their dictator who even used poison gas to maintain order....,,or as DonDiego would describe it "Syria after Hillary"

We can look forward to yet another 4 to 8 years of DonDiego blaming other problems in the world on Hillary. That's pretty much going to be Donald Trumps role too. Hey! Everybody needs a hobby.

The Russians would like Syria to host a Russian Mediterranean Naval Base.

The US does not want the Russians to have a Mediterranean Naval Base.

Also, ISIS has established a presence in Syria.
The Russians are assisting Syria in battling ISIS there.
The US is employing and supplying local "rebel forces" attempting to oust Mr. Assad. The US is also battling ISIS in Syria. Unfortunately it's difficult to tell all the players and some (much?) US military supplies intended for the anti-Assad forces may be ending up with ISIS as well.

I couldn't believe how big the casino was.
