Syrian Refugees

And in the midst of that our country accepted refugees from Cuba - like the parents of the two aforementioned Senators who are too stupid to learn from their own family's experiences.

Mario Rubio Reina and Oriales (née Garcia) Rubio arrived in the United States on May 27, 1956, with their son Mario, 6. Marco Antonio Rubio was born in Miami, Florida, on 28 May 1971, the second son and third child of the couple.

Rafael Bienvenido Cruz, left Cuba in 1957 to attend the University of Texas at Austin. Eleanor Elizabeth Darragh Wilson was born in Wilmington, Delaware, of three quarter Irish and one quarter Italian ancestry.
Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz was born in Calgary, Alberta on 22 December 1970 to the couple.

On February 16, 1959, Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was sworn in as Prime Minister of Cuba.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union over Soviet ballistic missiles deployed in Cuba spanning 14 October to 28 October, 1962.
And PJ is on the hook to provide evidence that the Cruz and Rubio families were admitted into America in the "midst of this crisis". I am looking forward to pictures of families in boats sneaking around the naval blockade.
Ooops the Obama administration paused the inflow of Iraq refugees for 6 month in 2011. Why was this justified and what was this against American values. The hypocrisy is beginning to ooze....

Can you say hypocrisy of the left?

I never gave the date of their importation...nor is it the least bit relevant beyond the environment they were fleeing from. I said we accepted Cuban refugees like Marco Rubio's parents. And I was right. I dont know the ideological difference between Cuban refugees accepted in 1957 vs ones accepted in 1962. Please fill me in. Are 1962 Cuban refugees more dangerous? And do you ascribe Castro's radical, anti-American views to the same people that were trying to escape him? No, you don't. And neither does Marco Rubio. But that is exactly what you do in the case of Syrian refugees.

So that makes both you - and him - massive hypocrites. And its especially egregious for Rubio given his candidacy and own family experience. For you its not egregious so much as typical.

PJ, I'm still waiting for your explanation why apples and oranges are identical.
The 2 stadium bombers came in thru Greece with the refugees.

How in the heck is FIVE YEARS EARLIER "in the midst" of the Cuban missile crisis? Spin all you want, but you are talking out of both sides of your mouth and will never admit it.

The quote is wrong on another important point as well. It was not Fidel Castro's plan; Cuba was essentially a client state of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics [USSR].

The Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile [IRBM] facilities in Cuba were installed, owned, and would've been maintained and operated by soldiers of the USSR not Fidel Castro. The Soviet Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles [IRBMs] planned to be based in Cuba had the capability to deliver Soviet nuclear warheads as far as St. Louis and Washington, DC.
The United States Navy established a blockade against the USSR ships about to deliver the IRBMs onto Cuba. A confrontation at sea resulted; The Premier of the USSR, Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev, considered the relative power of the USA and the USSR and the resolution of the United States leadership and backed down; the ships returned to the USSR.

DonDiego would not be surprised if in a similar situation today the the President of Russia, upon consideration of the relative power of Russia and the USA and the resolution of the United States leadership, Vladimir Putin would likely proceed.

Yes - we accepted Cuban refugees in the Cuban Missile crisis....refugees just like the ones we accepted in 1957 when Marco Rubio's parents came over. They were the same refugees from the same country and running away from the same threat.

But DonDiego and Jphelan are too busy trying to parse words instead of confront the hypocrisy of their positions. Neither DonDiego nor Jphelan ascribe Fidel Castro's philosophy of government or oppression to Marco Rubio's parents......but they have a much easier time doing so with Syrian refugees and ISIS.

But who cares, right? There are bigger issues to sort out. Maybe you can find a sentence of mine where I misplaced a comma. Then you declare victory at the internet!

Perhaps that is because the Rubios did not actually live under Castro's philosophy of government or oppression as they legally immigrated from Cuba in 1957...two years before Castro seized power. They were neither 'political exiles' nor 'political refugees'.

The current situation is different as Syrian refugees are coming from the very heart of the area occupied by ISIS....an organization clearly responsible for numerous terrorist acts around the world....an organization that continually threatens the USA....an organization that has already used the refugee crisis to infiltrate our allies and commit cowardly acts of cold blooded murder.

Given those facts, a pause in immigration of Syrian refugees is simply common sense. The same way we paused Iraqi immigration when terrorists were found to be among their number in 2011. Hopefully President Obama will recognize the legitimate concerns of Congress and approve the American Security Against Foreign Enemies act after the Senate approves this legislation.

The bill passed the house with the support of almost 50 Democrats...and that's about a bi-partisan as things get nowadays. This bill does not stop Syrian resettlement in the US....it just helps to assure that we have the process in place to guarantee that there aren't sleeper terrorists among them. I would hope that President Obama would work with Congress to implement these processes instead of prolonging his pissing match and directing more ire at Republicans than ISIS itself. The fact that the legislation got 50 democratic votes under extreme pressure from the White House to vote Nay should be a wake up call that it's not just Republican Posturing and fear of 3 year olds and widows.
