Syrian Refugees

Send them all to Colorado and give them pot so they don't blow up anybody!
Motown, I agree with your assessment on state sanctuary laws. If states can ignore certain laws, why can't they ignore other laws? The same can be said for the president of the United States. If he can issue executive orders on whatever he likes, what is the purpose of our congress and judiciary branches?

As for states being prevented from declining refugees , it seems that if there are states that can allow sanctuary cities in violation of federal law , then states can also refuse to accept refugees if they so desire . Bob

DD, I didn't realize that you're a retired "rocket scientist". I attend a Texans football game with friends each year, and there is a nice couple who's always there. He's a rocket scientist with NASA, and she's a brain surgeon...............which always strikes me as funny. Fun, fun partiers too.

However, DonDiego is nothing more than a simple poor old retired rocket scientist. To his knowledge he does not have a "Westlaw account". All he does is google stuff on the internets, . . . and up pops the information.

I dont believe state governors have the authority to reject refugees. But they do have the authority to be angry and stomp their feet. That would be a more accurate caption for CNN's graph.

PJ, then why do states and cities then have the authority to enact laws allowing sanctuary cities?

Because states are not responsible for enforcing federal laws. And being a "sanctuary city" doesn't stop anyone in that city from being deported by federal agents.

I'll require a fee for Future lessons but this one's on the house

I was referring to MY access to my wife's Westlaw account. Which makes checking legal cites and references "easy peasy". I myself am just a poor old retired digger of holes in the ground.

"Because states are not responsible for enforcing federal laws."

So they can ignore allowing syrian refugees?

While not old, poor, or wily, I also interpreted your statement to imply that the bearded man of Appalachia had a Westlaw account and was not afraid to use it.
