DonDiego notes that one US Presidential candidate has proposed raising the number of potential Syrian immigrants to be admitted into the United States from 10,000 to 65,000.

The other major candidate has counseled for caution in future immigration plans.

DonDiego observes 65,000 is a lot of Syrians. 10,000 or 65,000, "what difference at this point does it make"; in either case, DonDiego suggests that since possession of machetes is not guaranteed to US citizens by the US Constitution, that machetes not be provided to the Syrian immigrants.

Now that he's thought on the matter, . . . DonDiego observes 10,000 is a lot of Syrians.

Just because you are who you are I will suppose that was meant as some kind of insult. I am conversant (with some practice) in German, French and Spanish too. Does this insult apply to me? I would hate to feel left out.

There was a time when a person was not considered "of intelligence" unless they spoke more than one language. What ever happened to every academic degree requiring an understanding of Latin?

My father spoke German fluently. He was often asked to act as an interpreter while fighting for the U. S. Army in Germany in a conflict known as WWII. I can assure you that anyone suggesting he was a Nazi was going to be served a large helping of knuckle sandwich.
