Excuse my ignorance beth, but what is flash?

Flash is a multimedia software from Adobe that allows webpages to play animations and movies. So, certain webpages wont dislpay properly on the ipad.

Apple likes to fight with Adobe.

Yes, but a big part of the truth is the Ipad simply doesn’t have the horsepower to run flash. They would have upgrade the hardware to run flash. Others have already mentioned it, but I'll mention it again the e reader is better for books only, but it you want to do email, chat, surf the web you need a tablet. The advantage of the e reader is the battery lasts much longer. If your looking at non Ipad tablets the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer or the Samsung Galaxy Tab are probably your bests bets. The ASUS on price assuming you can find one in stock $349.99 and the Samsung because it is the most similar in shape, weight and size to the Ipad 2. $499.99. If you want to use an external USB Airtime card (that way your not tied to a carrier) The Toshiba Thrive is your best bet at $479.99 because it has a full size USB slot.

I have an iPad 2 and the only drawback is that it's hard too see when you're outside in full sunlight. I take mine to the pool and there's a lot of glare. You wouldn't have that problem with a Kindle. Also the iPad is heavier.

Sure the iPad is way more awesome, but it also costs a lot more. If you only want a device to read books with, then go with a Kindle.
