Tax on slot win?

That is the exact reason. I've seen on live crap games, where someone was betting 10,000 chips. The bettor actually lost during the session but walked with more than $10,000 in chips. While technically all net wins for the year should be declared, they have no business in withholding on you. I would have demanded to have them read the instructions and to clarify why they were justified in withholding. I'd also probably tell them that it was the last time I'd be gambling at their hotel.

As for handling cash, there is the over $10,000 amount where they have to fill out a form, but the instructions say that a bank or casino can fill one out for less than that amount if they feel it might be warranted.
Did they withold or just give him a tax form? Only reason to withold is if he didn't have proper id or was a foreign visitor.

No.

Something is missing here. Where did this take place? Nevada, other state?

Did you receive a W2-G? Did you walk away with the entire $700?
In some states, state taxes are withdrawn at the time of a hand pay.

Who is the "they" who "said" you "owed taxes?"

I wonder if this was just a slot attendant saying that you have to pay taxes?

If you did receive a W2-G, it will have the name of the person who completed the transaction and the machine number.
I would take the W2-G, go to the players club desk, ask to see a CASINO MANAGER, ask for an explanation.
The person at the player's club desk will ask if it is something they can help you with, but they can't.
Don't bother going through the story with them.
Just say no thank you, I have an issue with a payout transaction and need to see a casino manager.
The managers don't walk the floor. Someone will have to call one.
Keep the pressure on until you get to talk to a casino manager.

Your $500 bet plus your $700 win adding up to a taxable $1200...can't be right.

Horseshoe Cleveland it's in Ohio.. I was taxed at 1200 dollars.. All that was taken out was a jackpot tax to the city of Cleveland which is 6%... They taxed my bet and wager!
If a single win totals $1200 or more, you get a W2G. Last month I hit a royal playing triple play bonus poker for $1000. The very next hand, I was dealt 4 aces, which paid $100 each on the three hands. I eventually hit the cashout button and received a ticket worth $1422.50. I took it to the cage, cashed it, and walked away. No W2G because the win was multiple jackpots under $1200 each.

That doesn't look right at all! I'd contact the local gaming commission for clarification on their rules. Do it via email so you'll have a response in writing.
Bob I did contact gaming he said he had no idea.. Said all I could do is dispute the winner in Columbus.. I have a call into the assistant Slot Manger.. I will call the slot floor director tomorrow.. It's scary that people in management there have zero idea what they are doing. I'll keep everyone updated.. If anyone else has the answer or opinions please share.

Do keep at it Brayden. If they are collecting taxes they are not supposed to be collecting, they are breaking one or more laws. They could be in for a nightmare investigation by tax authorities!

I suspect you'll have to bring in the W2-G, and your ID.
You did get one, right? You'll only get the run-around by calling. Waste of time.

Go in early, start of Day shift, and plan to stay a while. Don't wait until late afternoon, after the person with authority has "left for the day."
Don't settle for some assistant. You need the Slot Manager and/or Casino Manager.

I agree this could blow up in that casino's face, and should if they cheated you.
