Tax refund

Just found out we're not getting much of a refund at all. I'm really pissed. Our household income was 20k less and i'm disabled, spent 2010 in the hospital and our refund was less than a grand, state was 17bucks!? WTF? Got back almost 4k last year. Who the hell is in charge of this taxation bullsh!t!(dont answer ,retorical).
Im really really pissed. What? if I had died ,would my wife had to owe taxes? I dont get it.

Did you deduct medical expensis? Including your meds?

Of course if you have great insurance, then that will make a difference.
A refund is not a reward. It is simply an error correction at the end of the year. I pay extra taxes to ensure a refund.
Snidely is correct. The goal should be to come out close to even. If you have a large refund, that means you allowed the government to borrow your money without interest and hold it all year.

BTW, assuming you filed a joint return with your wife, if you had died (I'm glad you didn't!) she would have had to file the same joint return and would have gotten the same refund.
