What a delightful game.
On game day teechur was adorned in her Arizona Cardinals regalia and DonDiego in a subdued Eagles green outfit. While teechur attended church Sunday morning DonDiego imbibed in Guinness at an Eagles-fan bar just off the 16th Avenue Mall and watched his beloved team coast to an easy victory over the Browns. Oh, and he ingested a Philly Cheese Steak too.
For those unfamiliar with Denver the 16th Avenue Mall is essentially a treed street on which the only vehicles permitted are electric powered public busses (which one may board and ride for no charge), and horse-powered carriages, and human-powered bicycle-rickshaws. It is like 20 blocks of eateries and bars and boutiques and touristy shops, . . . actually quite nice.
DonDiego can recommend the Rock Bottom Brewery, not only for the excellent chicken enchiladas, but also for the beers brewed on premises. DonDiego sampled six brews, . . . about 6 ounces of each for $1 each. All excellent, . . . and the Porter one of the "strongest flavored" beers DonDiego has ever tasted.
But back to game day, . . .
teechur and DonDiego resided in a downtown hotel one block from the 16th Avenue Mall, . . . that venue where one can ride busses for free. And the City provides bus transportation for $4.50 round-trip to the stadium from a bus station on 16th Avenue. Cool. So it was easy-peasy to get to the Eagles-fan Bar, and the bus station, and the game.
Upon arrival at Mile High, teechur and DonDiego were questioned as to their allegiance to either the Steelers or the Broncos at this game. DonDiego, wisely as it turns out, said he favored the home team, because he wanted to see Peyton Manning do well. So at the end of the game DonDiego could feign joy at the Bronco victory instead of having to feign sorrow with the many Steeler fans who had journeyed to the game. DonDiego actually feigns sorrow better than he feigns joy, . . . but he enjoys feigning joy more.
Before the game, teechur and DonDiego spent half-a-day in Central City up in the mountains mostly at a small local casino. The blackjack game was player-friendly and everyone quite convivial. teechur won, . . . more than DonDiego lost.
They had also "toured" the Coors Brewery in Golden, . . . a self-guided trek with a hand-held electronic guide, . . . still pretty nice as such tours go. And upon conclusion of the tour one finds oneself in a bar in which the agreeable folks at Coors provide the weary traveler with 3 very fresh beers of his choice from their taps, about 8 ounces each. FOR FREE!
Denver is great!
