Ten Reasons Why I Love the D

Quarter 8/5 Bonus Poker with progressives on both the Royal and 4OAK. I keep thinking it wont last but they've kept it there for many years now. I don't know what the payback pct works out to - but I'm pretty sure its over 100%. I have not seen better schedules at any other bar top in the city....and since the bartender is right in front of your face you can add all those fast-coming free drinks to your winnings.

Considering that the break-even point for 8/5 Bonus with 80-40-25 is a $1397 Royal Flush, I'm sure you are correct that it's 100% + from time to time especially with the 4OAK progressives.

Frankfurters were invented overseas before NYC existed. Nathan's wasn't in business when Greeks invented the Coney Dog in Indiana/Michigan. The Coney Dog is far more popular in Cincinnati than it is in New York.

Thank you for that, billryan!

I realize that the world pretty much ends at the Hudson but, nonetheless, we bumpkins in flyover country are on pins and needles hoping to learn how you like your Nathan’s Coney dogs.

I’m gonna guess steamed bun, chili, mustard, onions, and a big dollop of arrogance. Close?

(Even in flyover country, there are other choices besides Sonic, but I see there's now one in Staten Island. Bastards are closing in on NYC. Looks like you're gettin' outta there just in time.)

Nathans hot dogs are grilled, served on a room temperature bun ,with mustard. They now have diced onions for the tourists that request them, but that's it. I just dont get why a hot dog style that evidently originated in the Mid-West is called Coney Island hot dogs. Wherever I travel, if I see a place say they sell NY Style pizza, I know what I'm getting. the style of pizza popular in NY. Same when I see Chicago style, or Philly Cheesesteak. you know what you are getting- a dish based on the style popular where the name comes from.
Suppose I was to make a teriaki chicken dish and decide to advertise it as Southern Fried Chicken. False advertising, right?
Coney Island hot dogs- the ones people actually go to Coney Island for- are night and day different from the ones people latched the name onto. I just dont get why they dont call them Detroit style, or Mid-West style.
It just strikes me as very odd that you can't find anything close to a so-called Coney Island hot dog in Coney Island.
What that has to do with people in Boilers neighborhood driving hoopies that need to be pushed to the side of the road, I dont know. Lets just agree he is special.

They used to have a free steak dinner bank of .25 cent vp machines near the front desk, any 4 Oak gets a free steak dinner. Anyone remember those machines?
At the old Fitz, or when the D first opened? In either case, no, I dont remember. Was that the payout or was it a bonus on top of the payout?

billyryan it was at the old Fitz. They had full pay vp schedules such as 8/5 bonus poker. The bank consisted of about 10 machines (5 on each side). On top of the machines was a sign indicating that any 4 Oak on those machine would receive a bonus of the steak dinner on top of the normal payout. Whenever I got a 4 Oak, I turned on my service light and an attendant came and issued a piece of paper for the steak dinner which was used at the restaurant upstairs. Sometimes I got lucky and got the steak dinner and made some money. Other times I had lost about $100 before getting the steak dinner. You win some and lose some.
Ah yes...the old "free meat" thing. I had forgotten all about that.
I want to say I kind of remember it, but I wasn't playing VP in those days. That was around 2002-2003? If I'm remember correctly, they had a new member bonus where you joined and got X amount of points and got the dinner free. I played some Monopoly game with a train bonus and pissed away far more than the dinner was worth.
