Thief drops rare coins into coinstar machine!

I read this article and shook my head. I do give coinstar credit for letting the guy go through the coins in order to recover them but sheez!

article
Sounds like a phony story for a rag mag, to me.
It's plausible as a story, but just goes to show how stupid some people can be. The thieves were clearly stupid. Coinstar are also stupid giving them the chance to retrieve them - after all, 1) the coins are a result of crime (so should go to the police as evidence); 2) the coins are the legal property of Coinstar now; 3) don't let thieves near your big pool of coins in case they steal them as well!

Christmas day thefts by a son = disgusting. Lock them up. They should have put the coins in a slot machine instead. May have got nothing at all back - or hit the jackpot.
Check your change. I get Silver coins in my change on a regular basis at stores. Just drop them on the counter and you'll notice how they sound different. Guess granny's old collection doesn't mean much to jounior who somehow wound up with it and just uses the coins as money to buy stuff.

Its the oppositte of the story from life in my old Chicago days. There was some sort of candy you could buy that was in the same shape/size as a quarter. People we using those candy coins to pay the automated toll booths that could not tell the difference.

I remember the news story. They promptly fixed the issue before I got a chance to try it =)
They were called Necco Wafers. People did it all the time.

FACTOID OF THE DAY:

Necco Wafers are still made here in Massachusetts (Revere).

Necco is an acronym for the New England Confectionery Company.

Necco is the oldest "continuously operating" candy company in the U.S.
