This person had major guts to make this Super Bowl bet

The MGM Grand had a proposition bet for what kind of event would take place for the first score in the game. A safety paid 50 to 1. I would have wanted at least 100 to 1. Mind you, not only a safety would have to be scored, but a New York safety would have to be scored. The guy bet $1,000 on the bet.

Man wins $50,000 on Tom Brady’s safety
By Maggie Hendricks

A safety is a rare play in any game, but for it to happen in the Super Bowl as the first score of the game? No one would expect that to happen. No one would lay a bet on something so unlikely, right?

Wrong. Jona Rechnitz bet $1,000 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas that the first score of the game would be a Giants safety. With 50-to-1 odds on such an unlikely score, Rechnitz is walking away from Las Vegas with a $50,000 pay day.

The safety came when New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was flagged for intentional grounding from his own end zone, giving the New York Giants two points. Brady's lapse in judgment started the game off on the wrong foot for New England, and gave Rechnitz a cool $50K. Do you think he'll send Brady a thank you note?

As soon they called a safety on Brady, I knew the fix wasn't in for the Pats.
I want to be on the crap table with this guy and the guy that made the two $250 bets on the Cardinals last season.

I wonder what other bets the guy had going and if his 1,000 bone safety play was small change? I can't imagine taking $1,000 or $2,000 and betting $1,000 that New York would be the first to score and that it would be a safety. Hell, the Giants had the ball first and were driving it down field.

I hope that dude cashed the ticket before he posted the barcode on the internet for anyone to copy.

I was thinking the same thing, although I would hope that the sports book would put a hold on paying $50,000 on a lost ticket until they were sure that the party making the claim was legit.
To make a bet like that the Dude likely has a few extra dollars in his deep pockets.
The real odds on that happening had to be much more than 50-1.

The M Resort had it at 75-1 on their prop sheet and the LVH had it at 100-1...don't know what the closing number was at either book.

I thought one of the television commentators said that was the first safety in that stadium. Seemed rather odd, perhaps he misspoke.

says he is giving it all away.
