Arrived home yesterday from three week car trip to Nevada..Highlights/Lowlights only:
Mesquite, NV....area has grown tremendously over the past 15 years, but still only 3 casinos..Stayed at the Casablanca...Well run facility...great coffee shop, excellent steakhouse (Katherine's)..nice sized casino with very good selection of VP, slots and tables...Rooms updated and very comfortable...I had all room and food charges comped, based on my play.....Really liked this place, would highly recommend it.
Las Vegas: Stayed first 5 nights at the Tropicana (room and WiFi charges comped up front)...First night had a meal in their coffee shop (very mediocre food and high prices)...Casino re-done..poor job, lousey atmosphere, VP typical strip garbage..Room, very decent, great view of strip....Would never pay to stay at this property..
Next 7 days at the Eastside Cannery on Boulder Highway.....Property only five years old....Room, excellent (floor to ceiling windows - the views were fabulous)...Big casino, well stocked with the latest slots and a wide choice of good VP..They had several BJ tables with double deck hand pitched games, excellent rules.....Three large VP bars around the casino...Dining: coffee shop was good (but not as good as I heard it to be)....Buffet: large room, good selections...Fine dining: I had a full up-front comp here...not nearly as good as many others I've been to..would not recommend)...They also had a few other casual dining spots including a deli (which was quite good)...Overall, I had all room and food charges comped and would alsolutely recommend this casino/hotel...BTW, parking was close and very convenient..
While in Vegas visited a dozen other casinos...Barleys on Sunset, no tables, limited VP and slots, but a fun place...ate there several times, all comped....Arizona Charlies on Boulder has seen better days...You could cut the smoke in the casino with a knife....Sam's Town....major remodeling since I was last there...(my opinion-even though I won a lot of money there, not nearly as much fun as before).....Up on Boulding nearing the city of Boulder is a rather new locals casino called "My Casino"....Great bar VP and atmosphere...a nice little place..
Also drove up to Mt Charleston (beautiful scenery) and visted the Clark County Museum on Boulder Highway...Met Mark Hall Patton ( the guy on the Pawn Stars Show)...Friendly fellow, told us Clark County is so broke they continue to cut funding for the museum..and it really shows...too bad!!!
Recommendation: for really great Chinese, The Golden Flower on the corner of Russell & Pecos....small place, family run...excellent food and prices!
Laughlin: Stayed at the Golden Nugget for several days....The Nugget is remodeling their rooms...I stayed in one...but, no safe, no refrig, new flat screen tv, but doesn't display guest info or the ability to check-out...They really went cheap here...although the room itself was ok...And this was one of their higher priced rooms.....Casino, good VP bars, adequate, but not great selection of VP machines on the floor, BJ, single deck hand-pitched tables, good rules...Food...Landry (owner) has replaced coffee shop with a Claim Jumper...pretty good food, on the high side...not much casual besides Starbucks...A few expensive finer dining....Ok, not great...Again, I had all room and food charges comped....Given the rather poor selection of properties in Laughlin, I would probably stay here again...
On the way homwe, stayed over night at the Rt 66 casino in Albuquerque....It isn't the worse place I've stayed at, but I wouldn't recommend this place....and the casino is completely forgettable...
If anyone has a question, just ask.......easter.
