tipping housekeepers ?

Daily & extra on check-out day.
Yo eleven- I agree with you. I don't tip for bad or non service. Some people will only work after they finish socializing, which means in some cases never.
I historically tipped at the end of the stay..I guess it didn't occur to me you likely get different maids on different days. I think I will change my habit going forward. They're usually such nice people. They always say "hello" when you walk by them in the hall.
I had submitted a Question of the Day of this about 18 months ago but never saw it answered. My question.
Do the maids share tips? Should you tip daily or at the end of the stay? I have stayed where I have tipped daily but it was not taken until the last day. If you tip on last day it would seem unfair to the maids based on what days of the week they work( A lot of people leaving on Sunday). How many rooms do they each clean? What type of schedules do they work? Do they all work weekends and they get a couple days off early in the week Monday-Thursday. Is the rules different at different hotels say a MGM hotel (Mirage, NyNy) vs Caesars hotel( Bally's Harrah's)?

Derbycity123, the reason your tip might not have been taken until the last day is because the maid might not have known its a tip. I always right on a piece of paper "for housekeeping" with the tip. If you just leave money on a table without a note, there is no way for the maid to know if its actually a tip. Some hotels now have envelopes in the room to leave tips in.

I throw the tip money on the bed. They always take it.
$5 daily. I leave it on the bed, along with a note indicating it's for the housekeeper. I always find that there is a little extra attention to detail when I tip, like remembering to leave a couple extra towels daily, after I've requested them on the first day of my visit. I put that down to the housekeepers appreciating the tip and making note of it. I appreciate the job they do - it's not one I would want, based on the mess I've seen when walking by other rooms that are being cleaned!
Good point, Yo. I always use the in-room note pad to write a simple "Thank you!" and place the tip on it. And for places like Sam's Town which did away with the note pads, I carry a couple of pads from various hotels in my carry on. Sometimes the housekeeper will write a thank you back to me!

we don't usually get service every day. So what I do, I ask for the garbage to be removed and a few towels, and I give her a fiver. At the end of the trip, I usually give her a twenty or so, depending on the amount I've given her during the stay!
