Tolerance vs intolerance

I know some will disagree with the writer, some will agree. A good read and viewpoints are spot on IMO.

"WASHINGTON — Two months ago, a petition bearing more than 110,000 signatures was delivered to The Washington Post demanding a ban on any article questioning global warming. The petition arrived the day before publication of my column, which consisted of precisely that heresy.

The column ran as usual. But I was gratified by the show of intolerance because it perfectly illustrated my argument that the left is entering a new phase of ideological agitation — no longer trying to win the debate but stopping debate altogether, banishing from public discourse any and all opposition."

"Then last week, another outbreak. The newest closing of the leftist mind is on gay marriage. Just as the science of global warming is settled, so, it seems, are the moral and philosophical merits of gay marriage.

To oppose it is nothing but bigotry, akin to racism. Opponents are to be similarly marginalized and shunned, destroyed personally and professionally."

"Say that, however, and you are accused of denying women “access to contraception.” Or try objecting to the new so-called Paycheck Fairness Act for women, which is little more than a full-employment act for trial lawyers. Sex discrimination is already illegal. What these new laws do is relieve the plaintiffs of proving intentional discrimination.

To bring suit, they need only to show that women make less in that workplace.

Like the White House, where women make 88 cents to the men’s dollar?"

"The good news is that the “war on women” charge is mostly cynicism, fodder for campaign-year demagoguery. But the trend is growing. Oppose the current consensus and you’re a denier, a bigot, a homophobe, a sexist, an enemy of the people."

I agree. The Left demands tolerance from others, yet they don't find see the irony in their blatent intolerance of others.

I am a very tolerant person.....I put with many of the people on the LVA (most of the time).

The left's view of tolerance is akin to the middle ages and the catholic church. Any opinion other than the one set by the church could get one excommunicated or worse, death to the offender.

Ahh the good old days

The comfy chair! (One of my all time favorites)

To be fair, conservatives have their bit of intolerance as well, I just don't think it's near as much.

You didn't know that major respected newspapers are frequently intolerant? Here are some thing that you will almost never see allowed in the editorials.

  • Birther claims;
  • Claims that Bush & Co. caused 9/11 as an inside job;
  • Claims that Hillary killed Vince Foster;

    ...and so on. Intolerance! - just like Galileo's persecutors, huh?

    The above may be covered in news articles, but usually not in editorials or letters to the editor, because major newspapers are often intolerant of publishing opinions based on errors of fact. And global climate change denial is an error of fact, according to every major scientific organization in the world.

    Incidentally, the 2008 Republican McCain/Palin ticket supported a carbon tax, and here's a commercial featuring Newt Gingrich warning of the dangers of global climate change - along side Nancy Pelosi! The anger management therapy group, known as the Republican Party, didn't get completely nutso on this subject until about January 20, 2009.
  • What is Forkie attempting to tell us?

  • Wow! what a great anology ! Bringing up something that happened 500 years ago...
    Why not something more current like from the 20th or 21st century :
    From Wikopedia :

    In the 20th century, Christians have been persecuted by various groups, and by atheistic states such as the USSR and North Korea. The Christian missionary organization Open Doors (UK) estimates 100 million Christians face persecution, particularly in Muslim-dominated countries such as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.[2][3] A survey reported in 2010 that at least 75% of religious persecution, reported from 2008-2010, around the world was directed at people of the Christian faith

    Most of the religious persecution taking place in the world is being done by Muslims , but we can't talk about that , not politically correct . Bob
    The next thing that you know, Forkie will tell us that today’s Muslim terrorism is acceptable because of Christian atrocities a thousand years ago.
