I agree with Fritz that the requirement to vote should be the same standard as the one casinos require to get a free buffet.

Well, then its settled ! The site's Fox news crowd all agrees . Lets go have a beer!
The constitution doesn't say anything about ID's...and I could go into the million reasons why its difficult for many people to obtain one - but why bother? If Republicans were serious about modernizing the voting system they would support technology to allow people to remotely vote from any internet terminal...or telephone. You wont find any such Republican because Republicans understand that when voter turnout is big - they lose. And when voter turnout is small (last night) they win.

BTW - ask your favorite Republican legislator/Presidential candidate/mouth breather if he thinks an ID should be required for a private gun sale. You'll get a different answer then the one he gives you on the topic of voting.

Good luck in 2016 with...Donald Trump.

Probably because photo ID's didn't exist back then also locales weren't that big and the few who were eligible to vote pretty much were familiar with everyone else.

A million reasons why people can't get a photo ID? Hell, I'll take one legitimate one. Also remember, if they can get to the polls to vote why would anyone be unable to go get an ID?

BTW I believe a private sale between gun owners an FFL and ID is required atr least that's how I understood it because I've looked at gun classifieds looking for a handgun. Also, what about a father or a brother, even a friend for that matter gifts a firearm to someone, what all US govt. regulations should apply there? My dad gave me one of his favorite shotguns (specifically made for skeet shooting) when I was shooting a lot of skeet a while back, what's so wrong about that? I might go along with some stricter laws if there was a way that the criminals would follow along with the law abiding gun owners.

There are not a million reasons why it's difficult to get an ID. Not thousands of reasons, nor hundreds....Nope, there aren't any. It's relatively simple, for everyone.

And for gun purchases??? Hell yes you should have to show a valid ID! I do not know a single (sane) Republican that does not agree with that.

And yes on the big/small turnout. Simply because the masses are stupid. Those who only follow the easy path are not the ones making the smart decisions.

Like I said, the standard to be allowed to vote should be the same standard as the casinos use to give out a free buffet.
Even courts in Texas understand how voter id laws are discriminatory...which is why they smacked down that government's over the top voting suppression laws.
But what do they know? Stupid, Texas liberals legislating from the bench. Do I have that right?

With all of the volunteer campaigners for both the Republicans and the Democrats, I'm sure either side would be happy to drive a senior citizen to a place or help them get registered or to get a valid id. I seriously can't believe anybody would advocate that it is okay to vote with no proper id.

In poor countries, where people wait in the heat for hours to vote, they dip their finger in an ink. It is a means to prevent them coming back and voting again.

According to pj there over 1 million reasons.

When I go Empire City casino in NY, most of the patrons are over 65 and or minorities & they have proper id to get their coupons.

First off it was NOT a Texas court that struck down the law.
Second, it was a very poorly written law that should have not been put forth to start with. But when sub par lawyers go into politics because they can't make it as Barristers that's what you get.

Also note that the entire article you cite was written based on an interview with Professor Rick Hansen. I know Hansen, he advocates "the advancement of the progressive cause is best realized by changing the interpretation of present laws."

No ID is okay with me. I'd love to be able to vote in a few dozen precincts. TAMMANY HALL FOREVER!!!
As a republican female voter I am really confused and undecided. Trump is a t.v. parody and Bush has a shady family history. I am already an out cast because I don't support Clinton.... ahhhh election season.

Cool. So let's make everyone get an new ID just for voting. No fair just relying on pre-existing ID's that overwhelmingly favor, say, suburban upper middle class car drivers versus city dwelling lower class public transportation users. No one should get a head start when it comes to voting rights, right?
