Total rewards - need explanation

my husband and i go to vegas usually twice a year. we also have a harrah's total rewards credit card. we have separate numbers on our players card but the total rewards center tells me they are linked. When we get offers in the mail, they usually come under my husbands name and card and occasionally under mine. my question is for the amount of time we gamble (we are usually there for 4 to 5 nights) and we are not show goers or gormet diners, so we gamble most of the time, yet we never seem to make diamond or even get much in the way of comps except for free nights (usually three) we are mostly .25 cent players, sometimes 1.00 players, on rare occasions 5.00 players and will play some 1 cents too. We are also big video poker players at the .25 level. Will play some bj, 3 card pokers, let it ride, always giving them our card to track play. Is it better for us to play under one card (his) rather than both?
I have the same problem how many points does it take to make platinum anyway
4,000 points ($20k coin in on slots, $40k coin in on video poker) for platinum, 11,000 ($55k coin in on slots, $110k coin in on VP) points for diamond.

Your offers are based on your daily average, not your tier level, so depending on how many points per day you're each putting on your card it might be beneficial for you to both play on one card.

Also, don't use your card/comps for ANYTHING if you're not playing that day as it will dilute your daily average.
are you saying that if we plan to spend the day downtown in the middle of our stay, we should not use our card that day at all. Don't they figure on total days you are there?

Yes, a day in between play days with little or no play will lower your daily average anyway, so you might as well use the card.

True but I don't think it's fair
If i have 2,000 points and use them to book room eg: get three free nights or whatever and get over 2000 points during that stay do I get platinum or do I have to start from scratch

Thanks
When you book a free room, it doesn't take away your points. You need to earn 4,000 points during the calendar year to achieve Platinum.
Thanks Sue so if I earned 2,000 last year and add 2000 this it won't do it?
TR calculates points Jan 1 through Dec 31 of each calendar year. So to get to Platinum at 4,000 pts, all must be earned within the same year. So, 2000 last year and 2000 this year won't make it.

The points are zero'ed out from last year as of Jan 1, and everyone gets to start from 0 pts starting Jan 1. So pts are not cumulative, do not carry over from one year to the next.
