Totally political meme

..BUT...totally non-partisan. I just thought it interesting, don't know how much is true, but wouldn't surprise me if it was close. Those damn richthuglicans and dumb-o-crats , can't trust 'em...hehehe

It is a shameful system we have fallen into. Jefferson warned of the corrupting power of corporations and inherited wealth. It isn't going to get better and it is only going to get worse. 50 years from now the middle class is just going to be a sliver of what it is now, and I don't care who you elect Republicans or Democrats.
Is there a relationship between how long someone is in Congress and how corrupt they are? There have been several freshman Congressmen in both parties in the last few years that were forced to resign over corruption charges.

Tenure is not the problem....special interest money is.
I believe two of the many problems are tenure and special interest money.

There is a problem with tenure. However, term limits bring their own problems. Eliminate long standing politicians and the bureaucrats inherit the power. At least congressmen are a little more visible.
All good points and sadly true. Cowboy had a good point about the bureaucrats inheriting too much power, I hadn't reall y thought of that.

MAL, wasn't it Jefferson that also warned of a two party system?

Sometimes tenured people know how to act more like grownups. Lots of Senate newbs tried to shut down the US federal government because they had a hissy fit about a law that had already been passed. Enter Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Pat Toomey. Even if you agree with their position on the issue - ask yourselves how you feel if Democrats reacted that way in response to the Bush Tax cuts? I prefer the government be run by people who understand the power and responsibility of their position - and dont use it as a tool to vent off in a selfish temper tantrum

You'll find more openess for bi-partisan work amongst veterans like Orin Hatch, Bob Corker, Chuck Schumer, and Diane Feinstein. That doesn't mean you have to agree with them...or even like them. But at least they've been around long enough to understand meaningful progress can not be attained without working with the other side. ...and they understand the consequences of using their power irresponsibly.

Par of the issue is the fact there isn't much give and take anymore. Too much partisanship on BOTH sides. Harry Reid and co made this round the worst as he would not have debate on much of anything and Pelosie's civility was as bad.

It used to be what was good for the country, now it's more what's good for me.

We have 3 (or occasionally 4 ) party system in Canada. Not THAT much better !
Power and money corrupt....EVERY single time !

Wish I would have got into politics when I was 20 years old. Would have worked less and would have a VERY cushy pension long before now.

In my humble opinion... every state / province should vote in ONE person (no party affiliation) who has the job for 2-4 (?) years and then ....NEXT ! They now have to make decisions based on what's best for the future (and thus their own ass). Just sayin'
