I'm afraid there is a bit of confusion on this site's news column. On Tuesday there was a summary of the LVRJ report about the hi-speed rail project that is waiting for a government loan, but it was identified as the "X Train"...
It was back in Dec. 2009 that the plan was first announced, with the "X Train" website announcing that this "hi-speed rail link between Las Vegas and L.A. will make its inaugural journey on New Year's Eve, 2010."
But the X Train is not a high speed project. The X Train, also known as the Las Vegas Railway Express, is the project that wants to put conventional rail cars on existing track between Fullerton and Las Vegas.
While the X Train has made some progress it is also far behind schedule though it hopes to start regular service in January of 2014 after making a limited, inaugural run for this coming New Year's Eve.
The X Train, a/k/a Las Vegas Railway Express, is not the company that made its presentation before the Visitors and Convention Authority and is not the company highlighted in the LVRJ article.
There is a third rail project, like the Las Vegas Railway Express, that is also at work to bring passenger service back between LV and Southern Cal but it's been deliberately keeping quiet about its progress and deals.
