Travlers checks or Pre loaded card

I think that the main difference is that at home if you lose your wallet you can go to your bank and get more money. In Vegas that is a lot more difficult - my credit card was rejected following a computer glitch 2 years ago - major problem.

If you lose travelers cheques just present the stub to an office of the issuer - or even do it over the phone - and your new cheques are there next day. Lose a preloaded card and you have a lot more problems.

Years ago I would take TCs to Vegas. I don't know why other than it seemed to be what people did.

Eventually I decided that standing in line to cash TCs is a pain and a waste of time. Some casinos did the transaction fairly quickly, others took a long time checking lists, getting supervisor's OK, etc.

I take cash. Lock it in the room safe, take out as needed.

I only take cash and CC.
This question was for a first time senior - so my response considered a comfort level for her.
My wife used travelers cheques in Mexico a few weeks ago - she was able to cash them in 2 minutes - not a big deal.

Yes and it is a BIG difference. You get robbed of travelers checks you yawn, you get robbed of cash you soil your underwear. Big big difference.

Thanks everyone. She is 75 yrs young and loves to Gamble. I always take travelers checks and cash and Im good to go. She gets a small SScheck so she said she doesnt have a debit card and I would feel bad for her if she gets charged at the ATM most of her money is used for Gambling. Ill give her all the options

She could also send her money ahead of her, via a bank check, money order, etc, for "deposit" into the casino cage where she is staying. If changing hotels, she can always just take it all and use the room safe or player account at the next spot she stays. I'd suggest she telephone the casino she is staying at to find out what they will accept, etc, since her budget may be small.
