About four weeks ago I received a private message from someone who told me that they believed that treegirl might be a person who previously posted here under a different username. Neither of us is 100% sure of that assertion. However after about 30 minutes of investigation, I determined that the metadata contained within the photographs on treegirl's only trip report prove that the photos were taken in August 2007:
EDITED TO ADD: The links below demonstrating treegirl's deception no longer function, because she deleted them from her image host. Fortunately, copies exist, and many of you saw the photo metadata before it was deleted, so there should be no questions about their authenticity.

And in this photo I noticed a Rolling Stone magazine in the background:

EDITED TO ADD: treegirl deleted the photo from her image host. I anticipated that, and it is below:

To view the metadata of the photo, which shows it was taken in 2007, (with Windows) right-click on the photo, click Copy URL, go to https://www.findexif.com/, paste in the box and click Go.
Using the photo metadata as a guide, I went to Google Images and typed: august 2007 rolling stone magazine cover. The second hit revealed Zac Efron on the cover of the August 2007 edition.
This isn't exactly the crime of the century, so should I have kept treegirl's secret? I think it’s fascinating to ponder why someone would do this. And is that really treegirl in those pictures? My guess is no, but it's only a guess.
And by the way, people who upload photos to these forums and elsewhere should understand that they may be revealing private details about themselves when they do so. For example, they could be disclosing the GPS coordinates of their little tomato patch.
