The trillion dollar plane

Actually, the F35 is supposed to be a one size fits all plane for every branch of the military. Note: they have been trying to do this for years (f-14/F15,F-16/F18) are examples. I will not ever believe they can just use computer simulations to make up for actual flight testing and that likely is rubbing some serious heads the wrong way.

Yes, the military can spend money like a drunken sailor.....about a billion of them after a 2 year deployment landing in the PI.....
Sounds sort of wasteful to me.

oh yeah, and don't let the fact that we are kicking the shit out of third world country's (Iraq & Afghanistan) make you think we wont need that technology up and running perfectly if we ever had to face a Russia or China or someone a little more advanced militarily. We need to use this time wisely!
Better to have the technology and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I can't imagine there ever being another world war where we would need this type of technology on a large scale. I pray I'm correct.
No matter how advanced the airplane, it is still restricted to what a human pilot can endure, meaning high G-Forces. I would have to believe in Area 51 they are probably already testing fighter jet drones that have the fire power of current fighters, but can turn, dive, climb, etc. at rates that would ordinarily make a pilot black out.

All new fighter aircraft are fly by wire meaning if a pilot does something stupid, the computer over rules him and won't allow the action. They have been testing, but the AI can't keep up with the human...yet
