We wanted to go to Vegas for the weekend after T-giving but had decided not to go because we did not want to take our 2 and a half year old without the grandparents. Then a friend invited us to go and stay with them at the Bellagio. We still said no. So then, knowing my love of poker, my friend also invited me to play in a high stakes game he usually plays. Not the "BIG" game but still very high stakes and certainly higher than I have ever played. He also described the accommodations and we were sold.
My friend wanted to fly into McCarran which is ridiculously expensive to a selective tight wad like me but what the heck, the rest of the trip was paid for and if I lost at poker my friend would pay the fuel and hour rate on the plane. We were met at the lounge by a limo and taken to an inside entrance at the Bellagio and escorted by our butler to a 3 bedroom suite. OK, this place was WAY over the top, we like to stay at nice places and have been to some pretty nice resorts but this place.....WOW. There were 6 bathrooms! Fresh flower arrangements everywhere, there was a room that served as a salon/massage room, a little weight/exercise room and a butler that seemed to always be there....always. There’s a big patio area with a little pool and attached hot spa. Not much of a view (just the sky) and the sun never seemed to hit the patio but you could hear the water cannons going off for the water show. That kinda sounded like a complaint,NO Way, that place was amazing.
The poker game went well. I didn't get raped. I was expecting these players to be some kind of psycic super players but they seemed like average players, just higher stakes. We played No Limit Hold 'em, pot limit Omaha and ace-5 triple draw. I coasted through the triple draw rounds and did fairly good at Omaha. Ended up ahead just over 3K. Nothing considering the wins and losses of some of the others. Biggest winner was up about 300K when I quit and my friend lost over 100K. The big gaming win (in my opinion anyway) was my wife who ended up $2500 at Let it Ride......that’s right, Let it Ride! I didn't think anyone ever won on that game.
We had two really good dinners. Le Cirque was excellent and Top of the World was good, the view was great.
Our child had a great time. Dinosaurs at the natural history museum, hands on crafts at the children’s museum, a train ride in Boulder city and of course the pool. Quote of the trip: " Daddy, this pool is awesome, it has a hot part and a cold part and Antonio brings me champagne!" (Sparkling water in a champagne flute).
We will probably never get to experience the "whale's" life again. I refuse to risk the kind of money it takes to be at that level. But what a great weekend!
Next time it’s back to downtown and our usual penny slot/ VP competition casino crawl.
