RM, what you are describing is the Greek gyro.It consists of spiced lamb stack on a spit just like pictured and served just like you said, cut in thin shavings/slices caught on a large warm pita bread. The yogurt sauce is called tzatiki sauce and is cucumber/yogurt mainly with some mint in there. Pile on some onions and lettuce and mow down.
AQ good gyro made from a real Greek resteraunt CANNOT be beat, we're fortunate, we have a few of them here pretty close in No. Va. (just ask if anyone's interested where).
