Trump call for free socialized medicine

This past Sunday GOP frontrunner Donald Trump appeared on CBS’ 60 Minutes for a one-on-one interview with Scott Pelley about the state of the race and to discuss Trump’s specific positions on certain issues. The most enlightening moment came when the discussion turned to healthcare and Trump had the opportunity to excoriate Obamacare (rightly).

“Obamacare’s going to be repealed and replaced. Obamacare is a disaster if you look at what’s going on with premiums where they’re up 40, 50, 55 percent,” Trump told Pelley.

However, instead of then arguing that we should repeal Obamacare and return our nation to a free market based healthcare alternative, Trump actually said that he believed Obamacare wasn’t socialist enough and that the government had to completely take over the healthcare industry!

Donald Trump: “Everybody’s got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, ‘No, no, the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private.’ But…”

Scott Pelley: “Universal Healthcare?”

Donald Trump: “I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.”

Scott Pelley: “But who’s going to pay for it?”

Donald Trump: “The government’s gonna pay for it. But we’re going to save so much money on the other side!”
It's what I've been in favor of since this whole ACA disaster has gone into affect. Canada did it pretty simply, why can't we? I think the option to purchase private insurance should always be available to those who want tho.

In poor old DonDiego's experience "the government's gonna pay for it" means his taxes increase.

In poor old DonDiego's experience "we're going to save so much money on the other side" means "we don't save money", and DonDiego's taxes go up and the deficit rises too.

DonDiego has heard nice things about living in Panama and Chile, . . .
Anybody have any experience?

There's a difference between 'socialized medicine' and 'socialized medical insurance'. The UK is an example of Socialized Medicine. Canada is an example of Socialized Medical Insurance. I'm not sure what the US is an example of anymore.
I agree with DD's historical recollection of such promises from government officials. BTW, I sat next to a nice young lady from El Salvador on a flight last week.

The government pays for your healthcare in those countries.

Both Sanders and Trump are calling for single payer healthcare. Conservatives call Sanders a socialist while embracing Donald Trump. Funny, aint it?

Yeah, . . . but maybe the people are nicer.

I am sure that much gov't money can be saved by several measures, none of them austerity in nature. Require drug testing prior to the award of any welfare program, and ongoing testing in order to maintain the welfare. High on drugs? You're cut off. Eliminate about half of the gov't employees. Let them work for a living. Maybe eliminate two thirds of them. Put the elected officials on the same terms as the welfare recipients (ie., same health care plan with the same terms). Farm out most "Gov't programs" to private enterprises. Quit giving failures (such as banks, auto companies) bailouts. Tax everybody. (If my gambling winnings can be taxed, why not gov't subsidies?) Quit paying non citizens for anything. Put those millions of people that don't show up on the unemployment tallies to work repairing or maintaining the basic hard infrastructure (not the stupid electronic e-nfrastructure). Quit giving away stuff to folks that don't work when they can. Close the pain pill mills. Execute the murderers instead of housing them for 23 years.

Oops! My wife just saw my rant, and told me to quit playing with my little friends and be nice. I have to go now. She says to wash dishes and take out the trash. Yes, dear!

You may be right about that.

I'm not aware of a political party in either country that is angry and frightened by immigrants who look different and speak a different language. Very likely DonDiego would be more welcomed there than those natives would be here.
