I was initially attracted to Ross Perot but realized he was more interested in a cult of personality than a true movement so reluctantly voted for Clinton. Voted for Perot the second time because I thought Clinton, while a good President, was sleazy. I really thought Gore was a better choice than GW, and voted for Kerry because Bush distracted the world from the War on Terror by invading Iraq. I had supported McCain over Bush in 2000 and while I had some doubts about his age, his picking Palin ruled out me voting for him. Of everyone running this year, I like Kasich the best and would vote for him over any Democrat currently running...
I guess Kasich is what passes for a Republican moderate these days, but he's the kind of Republican who drove Javits and Rockefeller type of Republicans out of office.

The "tax cut" he supported is pure discredited trickle-down, even opposed by George H.W. Bush back in the day. It saved those making $40,000 about $70.00, but for those making five times as much it reduced their taxes twelve times that amount. Even Reagan was never that regressive. But that "tax cut" turned into a tax increase for thousands of elderly and low income homeowners, because he supported eliminating the homestead property tax exemption. Meanwhile the top 1% saved millions.

Kasich wants to shut down Planned Parenthood, and he not only opposed gay marriage, he even opposed civil unions. And he apparently supports the Ohio formula where poorer children have to attend poorly funded school. Meanwhile in his first budget he cut $1.8 billion from public schools. His chief of staff's husband had to resign from his appointed school administration postion, because he faked numbers to make corrupt charter schools look like they were succeeding.

Kasich supports fracking on public lands. According to public documents, he had state workers draw up an enemies list of environmental activists, and to enlist private corporations - like Halliburton - to attack and "marginalize" them. And he thinks that Obama's last year in office doesn't count when it comes to appointing to the Supreme Court.

Kasich supports having only one early voting site in every county, regardless of population. You got that? - A rural county with a 14,000 population gets an early voting site, and Cleveland gets one early voting site. If the Soviets had done that to benefit the Communist Party, we would have bragged on it in all of our school social studies textbooks. And for those of you who like electoral choices (hello billryan), he conspired to remove the Libertarian Party from the ballot. And he kicked off his presidential campaign at Moral Majority Ralph Reed's new group. Can't you just smell the moderation? And all of this is just a partial list.

So billryan, maybe you should take a look out how Kasich governs, not just what he says. He's a former Rupert Murdoch employee, and he governs just like he was still on the payroll. But these days the Republican Party is so far right, he could appear to be moderate, so there's that.

Where do yopu get this shit? I just happened to look up Kasich's issues yesterday, I don't recall seeing any of this stuff. For someone who routinely screams at the top of his lungs about sources, you haven't been providing many lately.

I agree that Kasich is far too Liberal to be considered at Republican. I also understand that Sanders to be far too Socialistic to be considered a Democrat.

That's because you're paying attention to what he says, not to what he has done as governor.

Of course taking into account all of the above, even you would have to admit he's no moderate.

Kasich is far from perfect, but of the twenty or so people that were running, he's the guy I thought would do the best for our country. It doesn't mean I support every decision he's made or agree with everything he has done or will do.
i'd say he is a moderate Republican, which on the scale of one to 100 political scale, with zero being Ted Cruz and Bernie being 100 puts him around a 30-35. On that scale, I'm comfortable with anyone in the 30-70 range. My ideal candidate would be in the 45-55 range, with my dream one being a 50. Very few national figures are in my comfort zone. Both parties have gone too far to the extremes for my liking, although the Tea Party has seeming broken the zero barrier with some of their yahoos.
