Trump done a good thing

Carrier to keep 1000 jobs in Indiana

Not everything about Trump is apocalyptic. This intervention will likely save 1000 good paying jobs in my city. Terms of the deal are not clear - and I'm sure there will be second guessing as to the details but ultimately this is net a positive development.

Sometimes the government intervening in the free market yields positive results....and I think this is a lesson conservatives can only learn from someone on their team.
Government intervention (by Mexico) likely caused the decision to move. Government intervention (by President Elect Trump) to level the playing field, seems to have preempted the decision to move.

No - the decision was made purely by the cost of labor. $25/hr in Indianapolis vs $2.50/hr in Mexico.
I suspect subsidies or tax cuts will be a part of the deal which essentially means tax payers will be compensating Carrier's workers to make up the difference. Which is not ideal but a better use of taxpayer funds than a myriad of other expenditures I can point to.

Details should be released today.
President Elect Trump and Vice-President Elect Pence are to visit the plant on Thursday to "unveil" the deal.

DonDiego trusts Mr. Trump has not exceeded his authority.

That's what he said. So change the first word of your response to Yes.

Carrier's workers in Mexico would not be employed by the government - nor does the government negotiate their wages. So I have no clue what you are talking about.
Saving low skill jobs in the US generally costs much more than the annual salary of the employees spared the job loss. There's a lot of economic research on this for the textile industry. Google a little and you'll see this is political grandstanding. We -- our country -- would be better served by retraining these very workers to do work that is valued by the market. Robot repair comes to mind. Eventually, you have to have skills to pay the bills. That's what gov't should help people get. Not make work funded by taxpayers. By the way, I'm a liberal but also a realist.

DonDiego looks forward to the day when robot repairs are performed by robots.

Then everyone can experience lives of leisure, supported by industrious, intelligent, obedient machines with the welfare of their human masters as their only goal, . . . UNTIL IT'S NOT !

Among those who speculate about such things, the speculation is that President-Elect Trump may have influenced United Technology, the parent company of Carrier, to retain the plant in Indiana.
United Technology is also the parent of Pratt & Whitney and UTC AEROSPACE SYSTEMS which do a lot of business with the US Government.

Once again, DonDiego trusts Mr. Trump has not exceeded his authority.
I am holding off on the congratulations until I see the details. I suspect Indiana taxpayers will be footing the bill for nothing more than a slower withdraw of Carrier’s remaining operations in Indiana.
