Trump done a good thing

I don't think it's going to cost the taxpayers a nickel. From what I understand is DT pointed out that it's fine to move to Mexico but be aware that next year every AC unit Carrier shipped in will be subject to a 35% tax, or something to that affect. They may eventually move but not 'til someone removes that tariff down the road, and I doubt that's gonna' be anytime soon.
Presidents don't unilaterally impose tariffs, and I'm almost certain Congress cannot say brand X gets no tariff but Brand B gets tariffs up the ass. That's not how things work.
For them to have stayed, something had to have been offered them.
Yes, it has already been mentioned the taxpayers of Indiana are paying out significant incentives for them to flee with only half the jobs instead if all of them. The details will be released Thursday. Indiana has a very poor record on this kind of stuff often paying out more in freebies to these ultra-wealthy companies than the jobs pay out to the employees.

No - the decision was made purely by the cost of labor. $25/hr in Indianapolis vs $2.50/hr in Mexico.
I suspect subsidies or tax cuts will be a part of the deal which essentially means tax payers will be compensating Carrier's workers to make up the difference. Which is not ideal but a better use of taxpayer funds than a myriad of other expenditures I can point to.

Details should be released today.

That's what he said. So change the first word of your response to Yes.

Carrier's workers in Mexico would not be employed by the government - nor does the government negotiate their wages. So I have no clue what you are talking about.

The Mexican federal government DOES in fact negotiate and regulate the workers wages.

The Mexican federal government DID negotiate the terms of Carrier's deal to manufacture in Mexico for export. All foreign held manufacturers in Mexico must do so.

So, YES the decision to move to Mexico was based on lower manufacturing cost due to lower wages. Which is negotiated by the Mexican government. Which is what he said. And you agreed to. But since you can't stand for someone else to be right........

The Obama, 1 June 2016:
"When somebody says, like the person [Trump] you just mentioned who I’m not going to advertise for, that he’s going to bring all these jobs back, well how exactly are you going to do that? What are you going to do?

There’s, . . . there’s no answer to it.

He just says, ‘Well, I’m going to negotiate a better deal.’ Well, how?, . . . what?, . . . how exactly are you going to negotiate that? What magic wand do you have? And usually, the answer is he doesn’t have an answer.”
Donald Trump this past August on "Dumb Politicians".....

"Over the years, I've watched, for years, for 10 years, for 12 years, for 15 years, beyond Obama, and I've watched as politicians talked about stopping companies from leaving our states," Trump said. "Remember, they'd give the low-interest loans. Here's a low-interest loan if you stay in Pennsylvania. Here's a zero-interest loan. You don't have to pay. Here's a this. Here's a tax abatement of any kind you want. We'll help your employees. It doesn't work, folks. That's not what they need. They have money. They want to go out, they want to move to another country, and because our politicians are so dumb, they want to sell their product to us and not have any retribution, not have any consequence. So all of that's over."

The people working at the 800 jobs saved at Carrier are pleased to know Donald Trump is one of the dumb politicians that pick winners and losers in the economy. But I would think free-market purists like DonDiego might object. Personally, I wish Donald used the actual retribution he promised in the campaign - but I doubt any of the workers care that Trump actually bribed the company with "dumb" tax abatements instead
I thought right thinking people were against the gubermint picking winners and losers.
I think the numbers work out to the state paying $8,750 per-job to this billion dollar company. I suspect there are also significant tax abatements at the local level.

True.

But that's the same amount those workers will be paying Indiana in their State Income tax over the same period. So basically the workers' contributions to the state's coffers is what will be used to bribe their employer to stay in State.

I haven't met many people on either side of the aisle in Indianapolis who are criticizing the deal much...and most people in my circle have little love for either Trump or Pence.
