Never said that. I called for a 1% cut in all govt spending. Out of a $3.6t budget the govt can't find $36b to cut?
It doesn't have to be staff cuts. It could be useless grants, purchases of needless equipment, rental of unused office space, - anything.

I have been in finance for years and we could always find a way to cut money if needed.

In a static environment that sounds very doable. However, with a growing and aging population, not so much.
Let's call today's population 300 million and it's growing at 6 million a year.
Today we spend 100 X and will reduce spending by 1X a year.
In five years we have 330 million people but are only spending 95X.

Now watch the lines disappear in a few weeks

Sounds like an attempt to get more funding
BINGO !

Congress Approves TSA Request for Screeners to Meet Summer Crush - 11 May 2016

Liberals make the assumption that 100% of govt spending is valid, but there are stories all the time about govt waste and fraud. A classic example is TSA. Out of nowhere we have hours long waits. Rather than investigating why this happened, congress hands the TSA $38m

When one uses zero based budgeting this forces groups to justify their spending and savings can be found.

We always got one pre-check on every flight too (seemed to alternate). Finally went down last month and signed for the KTN. Made an appointment on-line and had no problem. Lots of folks waiting in office, but without appointments, so we passed them by. Numbers came next morning on the computer and I called up and added them to our flights...worked great.
Only long lines we have ever run into where in Ft Lauderdale. SWA has their own TSA area in Vegas and it appears to run very smooth.

Does air traffic increase during the summer? Do you really need a congressional investigation to look into it? On the one hand you want to cut wasteful spending but then you call for another wasteful investigation.

Doesn't the TSA know that air traffic increases in the summer? Shouldn't they have anticipated that? Can't they move people from airports that are less busy to the ones that are bottlenecked? Why can't they add part-timers during peak periods?

You know they charge security taxes on every airline ticket sold. You'd think that their revenue would automatically increase when more people are traveling....because Taxes on Every Airline Ticket Sold. Maybe it's time to outsource some if this...and get a little healthy competition for our Transportation Security.

Just so.

A few of the busiest airports in the country have joined forces to tell the Transportation Safety Administration to speed things up, or else.

In a letter to the TSA, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said that some 126 million passengers travel through John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia airports each year and that long lines are costly.
"Given the adverse customer service and economic impacts, we can no longer tolerate the continuing inadequacy of TSA passenger screening services," Port Authority officials wrote.
The letter said the Port Authority is exploring the idea of discontinuing service with the TSA in favor of a private security screening company.

Twenty-two airports across the nation use private screening companies, including some major airports like San Francisco International Airport and Kansas City International Airport.

I can care less if the people feeling me up at the airport are public union members or Haliburton scabs. Regardless of how it manifests itself - the extra people are going to require more tax dollars to pay for them.

Contrary to the opinion of our board's libertarian wing, public services do cost money. Real money. What do you say to people who want to cut funding to the TSA - and demand more screeners at the airport? Probably the same thing you say to people who tell us we'll have 20 years of surpluses if we enact the Bush tax cuts.

Yes, remove people from a less crowded airport like Buffalo to the more crowded ones like Chicago. It might increase the person's commute, but check, it's work.
Okay, so then let's hire extra part timers. Great.By the time they are recruited back ground checked and trained, the summer will be half over.
Okay then. Let's outsource it. Who doesn't want to put their and their nations safety in the hands of the lowest bidder.

Contrary to our board's big government wing, sometimes you can save money by outsourcing things our Federal Government does inefficiently. Real money.
