TSA

'How can the line be "down"? They use the same equipment. Sounds like they didn't feel like staffing it that day.

May 16, 2016, I flew out of Seattle to Vegas. It took a FULL hour (I checked my watch) from stepping into the TSA line to walking out the other side. May 19th. I returned home. The time, start to finish, for TSA at McCarren, was 14 minutes. I even ended up bring some money home with me. I recommend Emeril's restaurant in the MGM. I had a plate of frog legs (first time I every had them) during happy hour for $9.00. They even brought a warm wet cloth to wipe our hands at the end of the meal. I know it was supposed to be an appetizer, but it was a full meal for us (we each had an order of them). I love the various happy hours for lower cost eating in Vegas.

A TSA story with dates, times, etc. and followed up with a mini TR plus a restaurant review. I like and bravo MissChampagne!
Great post and congratulations!

P.S.: MissChampagne, may I call you Miss? Ah, I've always heard frog legs taste just like chicken so is it just the running joke or true? TIA.

Yes there is, a person will go blind and grow hair in his palms although I've never met any blind guys with hairy palms..HMMM, perhaps that's a myth?

We just flew back on Friday 5/20. I got the TSA pre check but my sister didn't. It took her about 15 minutes to get through security at about 7:45am.

Literally no line at the Indy airport today...not unusual. Even right after 911 lines were only 30 mins in Indy. We'll see what Orlando is like coming back Saturday
JM2300, of course you can call me Miss. Or, Miss C, in Vegas fashion. Thanks for the kind words about my post. The frog legs were fried after being dipped in a buttermilk batter with a bit of Cajun spice. Ranch dressing on the side. They had about 2-3 chicken wings worth of meat on each leg. The meat was very white (like Halibut or Pollock), more dense / firm then chicken, but not chewy. The taste was closer to Pollock then chicken. Very mild and just the barest hint of an "aquatic" (fishy) taste. I am now plotting how to gig a few frogs from a nearby lake...
PJ, private companies fired bad employees and the government does not fire bad employees. That's why private companies produce equal or better results for far less money.

"I actually Blame George W. Bush and the Republicans for the TSA debacle"

The TSA was created with near unanimous support from Congress
1 Month after 9/11. Maybe nationalizing Airport Security using a Federal Workforce wasn't the best approach. Many countries have embraced private security for airport screening....including Canada. Remind me why wouldn't we want to have some healthy competition for our airport security dollars?

Everyone likes to GENERALIZE (slam) about the "Federal Workforce", that all are worthless.
.
I didn't say they are all worthless. I said there should be healthy competition for those jobs between the Government and Private Security. What's wrong with that? Whenever you just hand over a job to an individual or a company or a group without any competition, you rarely get the best and most cost effective solutions....But if you want some specific examples of TSA Fail...

TSA Spent 160 Million on Scanners with 95% Failure Rate

TSA Hasn't improved after failing 95% of security tests

In my opinion this is far worse than unacceptable airport lines. They weren't even meeting their mission 95% of the time for years...and no one said a word about it. Does that make you feel better the Federal Workers just doin' their jobs?

Were the scanners developed and manufactured by public TSA workers? Or a good-ole, free market government contractor like you promote so generously? And how exactly would a private sector screener know if the scanners worked any better than a public employee?

The boards biggest centrist cant bring himself to even assign blame to the proper people at the heart of his own complaint. Thanks for proving what we already know.

I had my TSA appointment Monday morning; office was a short 5 minute drive from my house. I had filled out the forms on-line, but the clerk asked me the same questions that were on the forms. I used a certified copy of my birth certificate and my Minnesota driver's license as ID. I played "20 questions" with the clerk, got fingerprinted, paid my $85 with a credit card and was on my way. Process took about 15 minutes. Lady told me that I would be hearing from the TSA within 30 days. Today I received an e-mail informing me of my TSA approval and my KTN. I was shocked that they responded so quickly. I'm good to go for the next five years; no more stripping down to my underwear or standing in line for two hours. For a federal agency, the application and approval process was relatively painless.

I experienced the same.

Spending $85 ($17 a year for 5 years) to beat the lines is worth it for me.
That adds only a few dollars to the price of a plane ticket. It is well worth the money.
