Turing back the clock: The Stardust

This used to be my favorite hotel:

Turning back the clock: The Stardust
It was also one of my favorites.
I always had the mini suite with the black jacuzzi tub next to the bed. Boy was that fun!

I bet you did have fun in there!

Thanks for the post Lloyd.Always enjoy looking at pics of old casinos.Bet Boyd regrets imploding the Stardust.
I see the old motel like rooms in the back. I only stayed in those rooms once. I usually stayed in the newer tower. I liked the Stardust too. I didn't realize that the book Casino and the movie Casino were based upon the Stardust and Rosenthal and not the fictional Tangiers Hotel.

I did have a friend who was in one of the motel type rooms in the back. He came in one night, opened the door, and saw a mouse scurrying across the floor. Needless to say, he wanted another room. They cooperated and put him in the one of the tower rooms.

The Stardust is where I also got roused by a floor man and their security man for charting a roulette wheel. He told me if they catch me doing it again, I will be barred from the premises. Later that night I see three people charting and not a single person is talked to. I complained, and was told that charting was not allowed (now it is) but I shouldn't have been treated that way. They gave me a comp for two people to Tony Romo's.

You are very welcome. I like looking at them too.

The Stardust used to be my favorite place to gamble as I used to do well there.

I also used to like to eat at Ralph's diner there. Had great banana splits.

I loved the chili they served in the snack shop by the Stardust sports book.

In memory of the famous Stardust Hotel & Casino, a Las Vegas institution since 1958, I wish to provide everyone here with a copy of their renown chili recipe... provided by Chef Rocky from the International Palms Café.

Stardust chili recipe:

Ingredients:
Ground beef (medium grind) — 3 pounds
Kidney beans — 2 regular size cans (rinsed)
Whole pinto beans — 2 regular size cans (medium spice)
Diced tomatoes — 2 regular size cans
Whole white onion — diced
Beef stock
Granulated garlic
Tabasco sauce
Chili powder
Water

Method:
Add ground beef to skillet and simmer for approx. 5 minutes; pull and drain grease, return to heat, and add diced onions, 1 teaspoon garlic, 1 teaspoon chili powder, and 1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce. Allow to simmer for 5 minutes.
While still simmering, add diced tomatoes, kidney and pinto beans, and 3 ounces beef stock. Add 24 ounces of water and let simmer for 15 minutes or until desired consistency.
Those motel rooms were DUMP CITY for real.
I have many memories of The Stardust, mostly good & a few bad.

Easy comps, and I probably never would have visited "Sam's Town" - without their help - the free shuttle.

Ah, the good ol'days!!
