Don't people who insult other people generally have their own self-esteem issues?

nope. thats just something dimwits tell themselves so that they can pretend the insult isnt true.

LOL! So true!

I wouldn't say insulting others is a self-esteem issue, but there is a way to do it where they really feel insulted and then there is the way some do it here with foul language.

etymology of douchebag
Poor old DonDiego would never suggest anyone bears any similarity to a female hygiene appliance. In fact, he avoids name-calling altogether.

_____quote_____
Gratuitous verbal abuse or "name-calling" itself is not an argumentum ad hominem or a logical fallacy. The fallacy only occurs if personal attacks are employed in the stead of an argument to devalue an argument by attacking the speaker, not personal insults in the middle of an otherwise sound argument. However, because a statement can be countered by multiple lines of reasoning, any name-calling relating to the mental faculties of the opponent is typically a case of argumentum ad hominem. For example, ad hominem attacks would include saying the opponent is slow-witted, uneducated, too drunk to think clearly, or needs more sleep for correct judgment. "X's argument is invalid because X's analogy is false, there are differences between a republic and a democracy. But then again, X is idiotically ignorant" is gratuitously abusive but is not a fallacy because X's argument is actually addressed directly in the opening statement. "X is idiotically ignorant" is not a fallacy of itself. It is an argument that X doesn't know the difference between a republic and a democracy. But, the implication is that the opponent is too "idiotically ignorant" to think clearly, about anything. An example of a direct ad hominem fallacy would be "X is idiotically ignorant [of politics], so why should we listen to him now?"

I would've voted for the turd sandwich. Oops, sorry for the political comment.
The Southpark clip is from a 2004 debate. The turd sandwich won in 2008.

From https://www.election.tv/Barrack_Obama

Upon graduation in 1983, Obama worked for 1 year at Business International Corporation before he moved to Chicago to a job with a non-profit organization local churches organize job training programs for residents of poor neighborhoods.

After having finished this job Obama then left Chicago for 3 years to study at Harvard Law School. During his stay here he was elected president of the Harvard Law Review. In 1991 - he obtained his Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude. On returning to Chicago, Obama supported a voter registration drive, then worked for the civil rights law firm Miner, Barnhill and Galland. From 1993 and until his federal election he taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School.

DonDiego is referring to a fictional debate in Southpark, a TV cartoon show, to determine the Southpark Elementary mascot. Why does mrmarcus12LVA bring the President of the United States into the discussion? [For the record the douche won in 2004 by 1410 votes to 36 votes. But the cow was reinstated as the mascot anyway.]

This is not a political thread ! ! !

Oh, DonDiego fixed mrmarcus's link: election.tv
I like Don "DB" Diego's new avatar although that type of appliance is obsolete in the more affluent neighborhoods. Perhaps it remains in fashion in certain areas.
