UNLV seeks partnership with casinos to build stadium

I think this is a good idea.. You can read about it.

Why a domed stadium?

its a gamble alright.
So will it be:

1. MGM Resorts Stadium

or

2. Caesar's Entertainment Stadium

or

3. The Wynn Stadium

To build a state of the art stadium for only to be used for six or seven games a year is a waste of money. Vegas needs to get it's act together and go after a Major League Baseball team and make it a multi-use stadium. Get the three major casinos to in on the cost of building it. Once they have a team committed to moving, each casino would put up the money to buy a set number of season tickets. They could use these tickets for comps as an incentive for gamblers from each different city to make a vacation out of it. Even if the tickets aren't used as full comps, sell ticket, airfare, and room packages to get new people to come and see the games and visit the city. How many people would schedule a vacation to come to Vegas to take in a Yankee, Cub, Brave or Cardinals game(s). This is on top of the people that would normally come from Arizona and California for games.

Almost none. Vegas has been studied as a possible MLB city for a couple decades now. They keep concluding that baseball won't work there.

Unlike Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore, Vegas is already brimming with entertainment and not in need of additional diversions.

The area and its TV market are too small, smaller than Indianapolis, Columbus, Salt Lake City, Charlotte, Sacramento, Orlando, and Portland, none of which have teams.

There's relatively little corporate money in Vegas that can sponsor luxury boxes and the like.

A relatively high percentage of the workforce works odd shifts during game hours and so won't be buying night and weekend tickets.

And the overwhelming majority of tourists that come to town mostly come from places where's there's already a baseball team to watch: pretty much no one from Denver is going to want to watch the Las Vegas Rays host the Houston Astros.

Vegas has some weird economics, but not weird enough to make MLB work there.
I listened to Oscar Goldman being interviewed on the radio, when he was mayor. He stated that Vegas would build a state of the art stadium for the NFL, including luxury boxes, if the NFL would agree to move all Monday night games to Vegas, and if they would throw Vegas a Super Bowl every so often.

I think back to when UNLV had Tark the Shark and had those great teams. Vegas went nuts at that time and sold the place out every game.
anthony might make a big donation and it would be renamed: UNLVA
