Using a Video Poker Strategy Card

I am going to try video poker on my next trip to Vegas in June. I ordered a pocket-sized strategy card. However, in the instructions to the card, it says to be discreet when using it in a casino.

This seemed like total crap to me -- I plan on having sitting on top of the machine. Does anyone think that will be a problem?

Thanks.
I always try to be discrete.
Is there anything wrong/illegal with using a strategy card? No

Is there a potential benefit in looking/acting like a ploppie but actually playing like a sharp? Yes

I'm not suggesting it will happen to you or that it even happens frequently but sharps have been told to take their vp business elsewhere.

I'm not sure why you'd go out of your away to draw attention to yourself? Keep the card in a shirt pocket or under your leg and by all means reference it as necessary but don't flaunt it.

Just my 2 cents....

Dan

Well, I'm surprised by the answers, but I know Dan's advice is always solid.

Sounds like a shirt pocket is the way to go.

Thanks.

I'm discrete but only because I got sick of other players asking me what the card says when they are confronted with hand they are unfamilar with.
They don't care. I want to try using one in a live poker game.

Better yet, just ask the player next to you. "Is the proper strategy for me to hold 4 to a RF and toss away the flush here?" I'm sure that he'll be most helpful

I have many times! My first visit to a poker room, I put on a very convincing act about never playing in a casino, only at home with the guys for quarters. Usually someone will ask if I mean quarters or "Quarters".

I have a starting hand guide and put it on the table, along with a hand rank card, and cocktail. (Usually faux cocktail)

Seems they are usually quick enough to eventually recognize I'm no fish. But reaction to the cards is funny, and I've seen people reach over and examine it when I take my bathroom break after first sitting down. (As I hoped they would.)

As for VP, I carry strategy cards for any games I expect to encounter. I also have printed out the "exception" plays, and on some games that can be 80+ plays. I am not shy about pulling them out if I have doubts.

Had my first, and only W2G at VP at Arizona Charlie's because I had the strategy cards and exception lists and looked at them before continuing the hand. Discard a pay for the royal and got it.

Seems automatic now, but I was a true rookie than, and had to learn to play before my trips because of the Arizona Charlies $100 loss rebate coupon offer at the time.

Now the loss rebate offer is at Terribles. Get it on the MRO.

Good luck.

I always have the card just sitting on the machine and have never had any comments.
Where do you find the VP strategy cards and how much do they cost?
