USPS Delivers

USPS is great and they deliver on Saturdays.
UPS SUCKS.

I recently learned that the catalog company I like to do business with, because they WILL deliver to my P.O. Box (some will not), uses a combo of FedEx and USPS. Apparently FedEx delivers to my Post Office, who then puts it in my P.O. Box. I didn't know they combined services.

I was pissed when my husband uprooted our mail box (because kids would knock it over as recreation) and got us a PO Box. Soon I learned to love it. More private, don't have to cancel or have neighbor pick up the mail when on vacation, the 24/7 access. It costs $60 a year but well worth it to me.

I love NOT getting mail every day...less stress. We pick up our mail once or twice a week, more often if looking for something important (which is not very often).

The USPS is now delivering on Sundays and holidays for Amazon. So a Prime customer can now order on Friday and receive their merch on Sunday. I've received two Sunday deliveries so far.

The USPS has always treated me well, UPS has been perfect, and FedEx has been perfectly awful. They delayed three of my shipments in the last year because they couldn't get in the security gate, even though I posted the code on my FedEx profile.

There are a lot of these now. I just had to buy scores of things after getting a new computer and I'd say well over than half were "partnership" deliveries.

I also ran into a problem, which highlighted the possible downsides to this approach. I had a package that tracking showed arrived in the next town over from me on July 18th, 2 days after it was initially shipped. (or at least it "appeared" to have arrived). It also showed online that it would be delivered within a week. After 10 days went by I still had not received it and checked again, and this time there was no delivery time stated. At that point I also found a USPS tracking number but when I tried to use it the number wasn't in the USPS system. I went to the post office and they couldn't do anything, so I called the local UPS hub and they were able to tell me that the scan I saw that showed it arrived only meant the truck it was supposed to be on arrived, and the package never did. I never did get that package, but I got a replacement via 2nd day UPS.

It seems to be good for both the shippers and the USPS, but I'm not so sure in the end it will be good for the consumer. The extra layer means more opportunities for problems, and for passing the buck when trying to rectify them.

Hello, Jerry.

According to my customers, a payment sent to me is lost at least on a weekly basis.

I hate it when stuff is shipped like that. It almost seems like they hold a few days just to make you wait longer because you didn't pay for faster shipping service.

I've usually found the cheap shipping to be pretty quick. I don't order all that much online but when I do I usually get it in 3-4 days. Or at least I used to.

Speaking of paying more for fast delivery, I thought this recent event was funny. I had to get a new EID Tax number and I filed for it online. As I recall it was $200 and would be delivered to me in 1-2 days or I could pay an extra $60 and get it in "as little as 30 minutes".

I declined, and got it in 15 minutes.

George Costanza: Let me ask you something. What do you do for a living, Newman?
Newman: I'm a United States postal worker.
George Costanza: Aren't those the guys that always go crazy and come back with a gun and shoot everybody?
Newman: Sometimes.
Jerry: Why is that?
Newman: Because the mail never stops. It just keeps coming and coming and coming. There's never a letup, it's relentless. Every day it piles up more and more, and you gotta get it out, but the more you get out, the more keeps coming in! And then the bar code reader breaks! And then it's Publisher's Clearinghouse Day...!
Jerry: All right, all right!
