I like snidely's question: how much do you tip when the valet has a charge? Here in LA it is not uncommon to find some restaurants with a valet charge of as much as $8.50 -- WITH or WITHOUT a validation. I think the $8.50 price (which you "conveniently" pay to the guy delivering your car) is determined so you will give him a ten dollar bill-- which is what I do.

So what do you tip a valet when there is a charge for the valet service? Clearly not the same as in Vegas where valet is free? Or is it?

We always tip the Valet 5 bucks no matter where we go. Can't stand carrying all those ones.

When I park in Philly and the garage is valet there is no tip. $20 to park my car, you ain't getting no tip.

if someone was writing an article using my name and discussing my tipping income I might be inclined to minimize it so as not to peak the curiosity of any IRS people
