Van Gogh Museum - Amsterdam

I'm going to be in Amsterdam in a few weeks for work. Along with the many other "must do's", I want to spend time at the Van Gogh Museum. Has anyone been and how much time should be given for this?

Thanks!
It depends if they are having a second (rotating) exhibit. If they don't 3-4 hours. If they do add one two more.

Have fun AMS is a great place!
That's one place I would like to go. The museum plays starry starry night by don McLean.

Thanks for the info! Really looking forward to the Amsterdam experience.

Another don't miss museum there is the Hermitage Amsterdam. It's a satellite of the St. Petersburg Hermitage and has a wonderful collection of their works on display. It's a great opportunity to see a small piece of that amazing Russian state collection. Having been to both I can say it is well worth the visit to the Amsterdam location - no where near as vast as the real Hermitage, but a very good representation, especially the Flemish artists. And they have a better heating system in the Amsterdam building - parka and gloves not required for winter visits, unlike St. Petersburg where the guards inside are all bundled up to protect them from freezing solid on the spot!

Oh my name is Van Gough, lend an ear,
All I did was just cough,
And my ear - it came off,
There it is, on the floor, over here.

I've been, allow about 3 hours, there's plenty of amazing paintings there to see. Make sure that once you're done you walk up the road to the rijksmuseum - absolutely huge, amazing collection of art, one of the best museums I saw in Europe. Give yourself up to a day there. Don't forget to watch some diamond cutting at one of the many factories, visit the red light district at night (quite a sight), and travel on the trams. You can also visit Hooters (or a take off of) in the main street if that's your kind of thing. The Holland Casino in Amsterdam is worth a visit if you're in a gambling mood, reasonably friendly, and not too much heat. Table games better than slots here.
