Vegas 7-31 - 8-5 would you go if there is no budget

No political arguments please.

I am scheduled to be in Vegas the week of July 31st, the news says if there isn't a budget agreement the country will shut down on the 3rd. So I am trying to decide if I want to go or reschedule.

Doesn't anyone think they would shut down air traffic control ?

Let's try to keep this on topic and cover worse case scenarios for a person stuck in Vegas.

I think there is a higher chance of your plane crashing than the government shutting down.

You must really need a vacation.

Stop being a worry-wart.
gandalfguinn asks: "Vegas 7-31 - 8-5 would you go if there is no budget [?]" DonDiego opines what gandalfguinn means is "if the debt ceiling is not raised ?"

Regrettably poor old DonDiego must concur with pjstroh and snidely333.

There will be an agreement to raise the debt ceiling to forestall a "shut down" of the Country before the deadline.

Even if the debt ceiling were not raised the Country would not shut down on 3 August. Even the Government would not shut down on 3 August.
And although President Obama has said “I cannot guarantee that those checks [Social Security checks and payments to veterans and the disabled] go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it”, Social Security checks and payments to veterans and the disabled would go out on August 3rd. There is enough money in the coffers to do it.
And the US would not default on its debt. There is enough revenue coming in to cover the interest payments due.

What would happen is the Administration would have to prioritize Federal spending.
And the aforementioned checks and interest payments on US bonds would be included in those-things-which-must-be-paid.
DonDiego opines that air traffic controllers would be judged as "essential" and their employment not interrupted. In any case, they'd certainly not leave their posts for several weeks; gandalfguinn's return flight is safe.
Other Federal expenditures and "non-essential" functions would be curtailed.

Worst case for a person stuck in Las Vegas would be deluxe accommodations, fine food, ample beverages, and loose women, . . . except for DonDiego who is most happily married.

As a wise man once said: "Stop being a worry-wart."

Why yes snidely333 I do need a vacation And I am anal and a worry wort. That's why I have a spread sheet listing all my activities in LV broken down by Activity, Category and Ranking !!!

Will try to focus on the pleasure of being stranded in LV for extra days while the politicians work out a deal. Might as well be stuck there since as a government contractor I will be on leave anyway if the government shuts down.

Thanks
DonDiego, I think one of the reasons I worry is that I am a contractor to the FAA and I will be laid off if they don't reach an agrement. But like you say how bad can it be to be stuck in Vegas. Thanks
Do share that spreadsheet. Focus on the fun stuff. What fun stuff do you have planned?

Not anyone who knows anything. Essential government employees like that will be directed to work, it's part of their obligation in taking the position. If not paid on the normal schedule, they'll be paid later.
I must be getting old or disoriented by what I see on the gaming floor. When I read "no budget" I thought you meant that you had no money to gamble with. I see that all the time. That's what the casino credit lines are for. You have 30-45 days to find the money you donated to the cause.

But as I read the other posts I must agree. Uncle Sam is not shutting down. And I heard on the radio that there is a clause in the Constitution that says the debts must be paid and the argument is that the debt ceiling will automatically rise to pay those debts. I'm not an expert on the Constitution, but I can tell you how to get a marker.
I will also be in Vegas 7/31 - 8/5. I'm concerned I will have no budget when I check out of The Mirage on 8/5 when I see my wife's spa & room service bill.
