If nuclear waste has to go somewhere, that sounds pretty reasonable to me - in a state with very low population, especially in certain regions. Heck, Area 51 fits right in with Nevada. Somehow I think stating the bill's intentions "turning Nevada into a nuclear waste dump" is a just a wee bit disingenuous.

Storing nuclear waste 100 miles away from a major population center underground on top of fault lines in state with scarce water resources, what could possibly go wrong? Do you think maybe we could get the guys that built the Fukushima reactors to design the containers to store the waste in? I heard they work really cheap now. Even today,Republicans are fighting to turn Nevada into a dumping ground for other state's nuclear waste (spent fuel rods) even though Nevada doesn't produce any nuclear waste of its own.

Republicans "wanted to turn Nevada into a Nuclear waste dump". That is akin to me saying the Democrats are trying to turn the USA into Cuba, Kenya, or Iran. However, I never said that because it would be a wee bit disingenuous.

Is it as disengenous as saying the president hates Las Vegas because he believes Banks should not be spending their taxpayer-bailout money there?
But the Feds had no problem with spending over $800k on a party in 2010.

Can you think of a better place? I've driven through Nev. (as probably most here have), the state is basically a wasteland for a tremendous amount of it. Again..a better place?

I support yuca mountain but people of Las Vegas overwhelmingly do not. So you can ask them what bothers them more: people who want to store nuclear material 90 minutes down the road... Or people who correctly say you shouldn't spend college money in Vegas..

Or you can just ask our resident FOX news viewers what Las Vegas residents should think. (You'll geta different answer )

I've read this a few times, I still have no idea what nuclear waste has to do with blowing money in Vegas. Anyhoo, of course Nevadans' don't want any dump site in their state, would you? There's an acronym for that, NIMBY, holds true there as it does any place where the govt wants to plant an undesirable project. Vast parts of NV are a wasteland, the Lord Humongous hiself would thrive there, seems like a good place to me.

A quote from President Obama. "You don’t blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you’re trying to save for college.”

Certainly that's not a concern any longer since Obama wants to pay for college now. Furthermore, what the hell does Obama know about belt tightening?

What does Obama know about "
Obama and friends have certainly not had a problem spending a trillion dollars a year more than we bring in. An please PJ, don't tell me for the thousandth time that Republicans had issues with deficit spending. For the thousandth time, I don't like any government running a deficit.

Obama is hands down the all time king of such irresponsible spending.

The states that produce it. It is called personal responsibility. If you want to build reactors in your state that is fine, but don't force some other state to store the crap you produce. Manage your own nuclear waste.
Boiler suggest that the waste should be stored within the safest site possible.

The topic of the thread was Obama hating Las Vegas. I merely suggested people should engage in some critical thinking. Which is the more likely proof of someone hating Vegas? A guy saying welfare recipients shouldn't spend the government's money in the casino or the guy's that advocate turning the state into a nuclear waste dump?
