I remember not too long ago there was a flight where the flight attendant flipped out. When the pilot is flipping out, I would figure my chances are 50/50. Thank God there was another pilot on board and they were able to subdue the pilot.

You would think the airline would have controls in place to prevent this. This could bankrupt the airline. Glad that stuff isn't hitting my fan.

It's hard to judge the airline until we understand what happened and if there were any warning signs. I know they have to pass a periodic physical exam....not sure about regular psychological evaluations. Kind of strange coming on the heels of the flight attendant that basically went air-postal in a similar fashion.

Sorry, but the most the airline will probably lose is an offer of a makeup ticket, unless it can be proven that they knew this pilot had serious problems.

Many years ago there was an airliner that lost power and was heading down towards the ocean. Many people thought they were going to die. The pilot was able to restart the engines and pull out of it. Some people tried to sue the airline for what happened and the court threw the case out immediately due to no actual harm or loss being sustained.

By the way, the airline is Jet Blue. It would be a shame if Jet Blue was to go out of business for this.

Even if you did have a loss or damages, there is some inherent risk when traveling at 30,000 feet.
