Vegas Flight Diverted

Sorry, but the most the airline will probably lose is an offer of a makeup ticket, unless it can be proven that they knew this pilot had serious problems.
Um, I suspect that what they'll lose is ALL their customers, my friend. Are you planning on buying any JetBlue tickets?

I personally doubt that they will lose ALL their customers - or even many of their customers. The flight attendant issue mentioned earlier in this thread was also JetBlue - that certainly didn't stop anyone from buying tickets on JetBlue. At worst, the pilot and the airline will be a short term topic of discussion by TV talking heads and will probably be the butt of several jokes by late night hosts going on about the mental state of crews on JetBlue. Then the public will move on to focus on some new issue, since public attention spans in general tend to be very short. I give this story a week or less before it's shelf life in the press expires, especially since there was no loss of life in either incident. In the meantime, I bet that if you visit any airport serviced by JetBlue you'll see that their passenger lineups won't be any shorter. Cheap tickets always win out with the majority of the travelling public. That's why all these no-frills, pay for everything as you go airlines keep popping up, and keep increasing their passenger loads annually.

Planes crash and the airlines don't go out of business because of it.
Cars crash, too. But I'll still take a cab. UNLESS the driver starts acting like the girl from The Exorcist. In that case, I'm switching cab companies. Superstitious, I guess.

Um, yes. Why would that stop me from flying them?
Passengers should of received a free round trip to Vegas and $400 in slot play.
Seems Jet Blue has had some issues the past couple of years! (hours on the tarmac-crazy pilot) and such. Not sure they would be my choice if I had choices.

You would think the airline would have controls in place to prevent this.

Prevent what? Life happens. People go ape without warning.

Not all information in, but I'd guess they had one control in place, the fact that the co-pilot had the brains to get this guy out of the cockpit and lock him out. Not a good situation, but at least he couldn't take the plane down. I'm guessing that might be part of the training...if somehow a nut job goes postal in the cockpit, get 'em out and lock 'em out.
Great points O2bnVegas.

Anyone can go ape shit at anytime. That co-pilot defused the situation in the cockpit, then those security trained passengers took care of the pilot until safely on the ground.
