VEGAS WORLD MEMORIES

I never stayed there, but regularly took advantage of a promotion for players where you paid $2-3 to register for a program that gave you free chips, and slot play, given in pieces after 15-25 minute increments. You had to go back to the promotions booth within 5 minutes +/- of that increment to get the next reward, and the old ladies in the booth enforced those times like their lives depended on it. We had it timed so that we would walk over to IHOP for breakfast during the longest increment of the program, so the 2 or so hours of hanging around wasn't really that imposing. It was a average $25 profit for each of us every time, and the only risk was the $2-3 registration fee.

They had that one in all the freebie magazines (remember the 3 minute free long distance call at Lady Luck?).
You really had to be a cheap asshole to wait around 2+ hours to grind out about $20....yeah I hit it a couple of times.
When we went there but can't remember the year. The offer was in Parade magazine. $1,000.00 match/play chips and four nights free. What a dingy dump it was. Gloomiest casino floor I had ever seen, however our room was nice and clean. Anyway, I am a slot player and not a table player, so I had to figure some way to convert those chips to cash. I went to the roulette wheel and put $500 on red and $500 on black. Thank God green didn't come up! We used our $500 cash in the quarter machines and it lasted our stay.
Maybe "Vegas World" is just what Vegas needs today. All that advertising brought in thousands of people who may very well have never gone to Vegas. Many, many, of those people are still going today. What is Vegas doing to attract that demo today? I think the demo was 30-50 year olds with disposable income who had never been to Vegas.

I take it you have never been to Mahoney's Nugget or the Opera House.

Once walked from downtown in 1991 and visited there and Stardust. Just remember the crazy décor. Wish someone could recreate that place.
Ahh...The Polish Maverick. Relay some of my stories another time. Used that "gimmick" pitch he had for many a trip to Las Vegas. Cut my teeth at Vegas World.
I only miss Vegas World from the standpoint of having a good laugh. I don't think I would ever want to stay there or eat there. I wonder what their best restaurant was, when it was open?

Domino's Pizza Delivered. But then, that really wasn't their restaurant.

We used to take the meager winnings from the free slot play and put it on the twelve at the craps table. Usually got about $15.00 for the 12. Split the $800 in half and put it on Pass and Don't Pass and pray that 12 comes in. I think those who are craps players know why. 30 - 1 on the 12, Lose Pass Line, Push on Don't Pass. Immediately split the $400 on the Don't Pass. Keep the $15.00 on the 12. Put a nice bet on the Pass "for the boys" sit back and wait for a decision. Only came in once. You should have seen the glares you'd get from the box. The boys knew the score. The calls went from the cage to the pit when somebody actually cashed out with black chips. It was hilarious. Most of the time we lost the12 bet but collected $400 on the Pass or Don't Pass. Trip paid for.
