Video Poker books and software question

thinking about buying a video poker book or some software. with so many options, I am looking for feedback as to what to buy. plus if you have used one of these did it help or change the way you played your hands.
There are a lot of good options and you will no doubt get differences of opinions in future replies.

From personal experience, Video Poker for the Intelligent Beginner by Bob Dancer is a good choice for reading. Not only does it outline games but it helps put the whole package together....slot clubs, mailers, promotions, etc. Given the vp landscape in Vegas right now, taking a global approach to winning is almost mandatory.

On the software side, I prefer Video Poker for Winners....another Dancer product. It's about $50 but gives you the ability to change paytables (i.e. allow for progressives), play multi-line games, play popular games like Multi Strike, Super Times Pay, and Spin Poker, print strategy charts and calculate your risk of ruin and bankroll requirements. While other programs have some/most of these features, this does so with an interface that looks like you're sitting in front of a real vp machine.

If you have an iPhone, you may want to consider the previous Dancer branded offering called Win Poker. While it's scaled to have less features, it does allow you to take the program with you so that you can practice without being tethered to a computer. The developer has indicated that a version for other smartphones will be forthcoming but it seems a bit overdue so I'm not sure as to the progress/status.

For the best bang for the buck, you can't argue with Frugal Video Poker by Jim Wolf as it's free. He admits that it's a bit dated and the interface is a bit basic but the math is solid and you can print strategy charts so fundamentally, one can't argue with it. You can find it on his website which is www.wolfvideopoker.com.

Good luck!

You can learn anything you want for free at sites like VP Genius and Wizard Of
Odds. Strategy cards, training software, etc.
You might want to spend a buck and buy Jean Scott's (a fake name) book "Frugal Gambling" or some similar book on Amazon.
Other than that don't spend a penny, it's all out there for free.
The two newest and most up-to-date software programs are Video Poker for Winners and Wolf Video Poker. Anyone who plays VP seriously should have one of these programs.

There are a few free trainers on the internet. videopoker.com has one. However, they do not have near as much function as these programs.

Agreed with this. It's a great and free starting point. Here's a direct link to the download page:
