Video Poker "hitting quads" question ....

This is something that I've thought about off and on and don't know the answer ......... Maybe someone here knows.

Is it easier to get 4 OAK when holding a pair and drawing 3 cards, or when holding 3 of a kind and drawing 2 cards ? (no wild cards)

THANKS, Rick
Think of it this way-

easiest- dealt 4 of a kind
next- dealt 3 of a kind
next- dealt a pair
next- keep one card
hardest- draw five

Holding a pair you should get a quad once every 360 hands on average. You are dealt a pair once every 2.37 hands. So, you should get a quad holding a pair once every 854 hands.

Holding 3oak you should get a quad once every 23.5 hands on average. You are dealt 3oak once every 47 hands (ignoring FHs). That's 1105 hands on average.

BTW, you should be dealt a quad every 4165 hands.

In a recent session of playing DDB it took until the 90th time I was dealt 3OAK to draw the quad. That was not a good session. It is the only thing I keep track of when playing. I used to count the times I did not draw a flush when holding four of a suit but quit when I realized I NEVER get one.

I misread the question and Arc is right. Similar to hitting a royal, most are hit with a 2 card draw.

JZ, your answer is correct.

It easier to get 4oak by drawing 2 to 3oak than to draw 3 to a pair.
Seems to me, that I've hit 4 Aces more when drawing to a pair than getting 3 OAK dealt. Maybe it's just me.
