Vintage Train Cars at Downtown’s Main Street Station Find New Home

If you are a downtown lover you may miss these trains...I know I will.

Vintage Train Cars at Main Street Station Find New Home
What would've been cooler than a future on the back of a truck in an olden times parade once a year?

If someone running one of the vintage train operations could've bought 'em, . . . and retained them on the rails as authentic passenger-carrying railroad cars.

There's several such operations poor old DonDiego's ridden 'round the Apalachians, . . . and plenty of 'em out West too. Too bad some operation like the The Grand Canyon Railway couldn't've grabbed 'em to carry folks up to the canyon. Although poor old DonDiego cannot recommend actually riding that railroad, as last time he did it was held up by a ragtag band of worthless cowboys turned to a life of crime a'robbin' trains.
[Hmm, that there web-site suggests they've upgraded their rolling stock to 20th century railcars. Too bad.]

It would'a' been nicer if'n the Cumbres and Toltec or the Durango & Silverton operations had been able to put them to good use.
My side bet still holds:
It will be a parking garage.Maybe a storage facility.

It will be weird NOT to see the train cars there.
Change is always to 'norm' in 'Vegas.

Go,Steven's boys, GO!
I went to Fremont street for my year pilgrimage the first week of December and was not happy about The Vegas club being closed, The Le Bayou being closed, The Glitter gulch strip club being closed, mermaids being closed and now the Trains are gone. I am real worried about Binnions, everyone else is at least trying to spruce the places up but not Binions. They even shut down their Poker room during the week and you have to sit out in the hall by the rewards booth.
Change is ok, but simply closing down is unacceptable

I like downtown and have always had an almost secret fantasy about being a casino owner.
When I retired I spent (i.e. wasted) an obscene amount of money on an exploratory research report to form a syndicate to buy the Plaza. Reality killed that fantasy.

Lately I have been paying close attention to Binion's. The old Horseshoe holds a special place in my memory. It is the first place I ever gambled. 25 cent craps.
I really believe that Binion's could be a top contender downtown. I KNOW that the poker room could be a top spot in the city with the right management (that doesn't necessarily mean it would be a big money maker). The hotel could turn a profit with the right marketing. Any casino with that much free foot traffic can get by....if you work at it.

Of course when I casually brought this up at home I thought I was going to get slapped. I was reminded that I retired to enjoy life and my young family, not work my ass off on another challenge.

I man needs his fantasies.
Viva Laughlin. The sequel.

Binions is a shell of its former self, sad to say. surely someone could turn it around. it cant be beat for location and foot traffic. I am a budget minded vegas visitor, so I love a bargain and a fair gamble. .25 cent craps is probably out of the question, but maybe $1? I would love to see a $1 craps table downtown. with the right management and marketing team, surely it could turn a profit. what we don't need more of is loud music, 6:5 BJ, resort fees and that kind of crap.
my fantasies I suppose. ;-)
With the downtown casinos be so tightly grouped,it's easy to walk 200 feet to the next table downtown, instead of a 1,000+ feet,as on the strip.
If downtown even TRIES the 6:5 BJ pay off, they will be paying their dealers to stand there and do nothing.
200 feet away, there will be a better table.

It ain't closing down,it's simply changing.

I have played 25 cent craps at Binion's! They were brown chips.
During a break, one of the stick men leaned back and said,"Ah,just smell that sea breeze coming through."
HA HA HA!
I'll never forget that. The table was right next to the big wheel, right by the front entrance and there was a breeze.
I can remember the tub, when Binion's had ROOMS!
The water was brown, like the chips.

It all about change.
Hopefully,for the better.
We will see.

Binions has had 6-5 blackjack for several years now.

What did you estimate the bottom line cost to buy the Plaza?
