VP Jackpot question

I have a trip to Reno next week, and the hotel is giving me $250 in gambling credits. So my friend and I decided that we would find $5 VP machine and play 10 hands (which will run though all the money). When the 10 hands are played, we'll cash out and then split the money.

So my question is, hypothetically if we hit a royal or something else that would require a W2G, who would end up getting it? The money is being played off of my card/players account, but what if he's the one actually sitting in front of the machine for that hand?

Just curious

Interesting question. They might have a problem with someone else "using" your gaming credits. If, and I would assume they are, gaming credits that are given to a specific person are not transferrable, they might refuse to pay the jackpot. I'd be more concerned about that than who would get the W2G.

Interesting point. Well, I'll make sure I'm the one sitting at the machine then.
The person who hit the button that got the Royal Flush (or other jackpot over $1200) is the person for whom the W2-G will be issued and is responsible for it at tax time. And don't even think of trying to swap seats to fool the attendant who comes to get your information. That can get you in trouble.

It doesn't matter at all whose card is in the reader or whose money is being used, whether cash, Free Play, Point Play, etc.

The BIG issue is having to declare the winnings for tax purposes, which will depend on who who was sitting in the seat. If you hit a Royal on $5 VP, the winnings will be, what, $20,000? Contrary to popular belief, the casino doesn't care at all who's players card happens to be in the reader, but they do care who's butt was in the chair and hit the button.

Friendships have been destroyed over this type of thing if not worked out clearly in advance. Get it in writing. You may think this is overkill, but what you have in mind may not be what your friend has in mind in regard to 'splitting the money.' Especially the tax part. The one with the Free Play could suddenly have an attack of "It was my money", or the friend could suddenly have an attack of "I hit the button the got the Royal." Not saying either of you would, but things like this have happened and even gone to court, so just be real clear about it before your start.

At any rate, good luck!

OK,so you both will decide how to play EACH hand?Get your cheat-sheets ready.
That 50-50 split can be trouble.
What Bonnie said is gospel.

I doubt you will hit a RF in just a few plays. Just have fun with the VP game!
You both will be happy with a few quads!
Get your free drinks,too.
It will be fun. JUST DO IT.
The casino might actually care who is playing the freeplay that was alotted to a specific player. I have never heard (or read) about this exact scenario actually happening but would not be surprised if the casino has a problem with somebody else playing your freeplay and hitting $20,000. Just my opinion. Does anybody know of this ever happening for real?

No. Everything from casinos is "non-transferable", including comped rooms, show tickets, etc. Legalese to insure that at least "you" take the bait and return to the casino. Nobody can obtain comped show tickets, for instance, without showing ID. Once you obtain your comped show tickets from the box office, you can give the tickets (or room, or whatever) to someone else if you wish. Once your Free Play is loaded, it is yours to do with as you wish.

Anyway, I gotta think that Campion is a super nice person for sharing winnings from the Free Play with the friend. Just have it understood beforehand that whoever is sitting in front of the machine when a jackpot is hit will get the W2-G and deal with the consequences (if any) at tax time.

And remember, even some 4OKs can generate at W2-G on a $5 VP machine.
Well, my friend is joining me (flying up from Dallas) and I'm providing the comped room, comped food, and this gambling cash. I want to share it all with him, although in terms of money he makes more than I do so that's not really a concern. My hope is that with those 10 hands we'll get lucky and score a full house or maybe even a 4 of a kind, something we can split down the middle without having to worry about getting a W2-G. My friend certainly doesn't EXPECT anything, he knows I don't have to do that at all. I'll probably just clarify from the beginning that if we hit something that requires a tax form, I'll take the money and then give him some on the side.
The bigger dilemma would be how to NOT tell my wife about the jackpot. I bet I could get most of the money invested before she caught wind....
