Arc- Excellent information! A question;

1- "hold a single ace over any low pair to improve the chances of hitting aces" But not if the low pair is 2's - 4's, correct?

If you are playing for a high finish then you will need to hit aces/w kicker at least once. Even 2-4 won't do it for you unless you hit a bunch of them. If you are just playing to cash then keeping those low pairs seems reasonable. So, it depends on your goals. And, you may want to change that strategy as you go depending on your results.

Also, I should have mentioned that you will need to maintain a reasonable pace. 200 hands in 15 minutes isn't hard unless start over-thinking. However, it is a pace of 800 hands/hour. Don't run out of time before you finish all your hands.
Hi ARC- To be honest any finish in the Top-10 would be GREAT. And of course any top-30 finish would be pretty much a break even on the $129 buy-in.

I'd guess I have played around 500,000 hands of VP total. I have 10 or 11 Royals lifetime and have the math down on most games.

". . . And, you may want to change that strategy as you go depending on your results. . . " This makes excellent sense to me. I believe I'll play the early round shooting for those quad 2-4 (and lose the single A) but if I see that I am way behind heading into round 2 and especially round 3 I'll switch to the Hold-a-single-Ace idea.

Speed wise, I think I'll be OK, but I'll keep and eye on the clock and make sure to get all 200 hands each session.

If I have a little luck, I'll make sure to repay the favor, for the advise, sometime in Las Vegas. 777 Pub, on me!

I would say dont waste your time with this tournament and just use the $129 to play some quarter VP.

To be honest with you, you have to get at least 10th place or better to make money and you're limited to only 200 hands a session. It just doesn't seem like a good value tournament to me. CET properties have VP tournies like this that are free to play and usually give $50 free play or gift card minimum just for showing up.

My opinion, skip this.
I think KingBB has it correct!!

Skip this tourney - the $129 doesn't even give you hotel rooms.

Unless, you just REALLY want to play the tournament.

Funny, I thought the same thing - no comp rooms, just airport shuttle service for a 2 day tournament? And you don't even get enough $ or free play to recoup your entry fee unless you finish in the top ten (and that's only if they get 350 entries, otherwise they will lower the payouts). Not sure I would take them up on this one.
90% of the players will be staring at their screens most of the time.... play as fast as possible and keep only pairs or higher and 3 or more to a royal. dump everything else. (except 4 to flush) you need lots of quads and fullhouses to get a decent score. I've had lots of scores in the 4000 range without aces or quads with a kicker because i was playing twice as fast as most others. (10 minutes)

More good information. Thanks guys.

I too have seen VP tournaments that had much better pay-outs and much better comps. I just thought because we will be there for both days and I have never played a VP tourny before, that I would give this one a go.

At the very least, I'll get a little action for my $129, that will last a minimum of 45 minutes. LOL! Usually that dollar amount last substantially than 45 mins.

PW- I will be sure to get all 600 hands in. Thanks for the info and tips.

GO 49er's!!
Definitely wish you good luck on the tourney and hope you tell us how it ended up for you. I'd be really interested if they end up doing anything 'nice' at all for you like maybe a freebie meal or something at the end of your stay.
I also noticed and wondered about the lack of room for the tourney.
