This is a quote from the article.

"Although he normally checked his blood sugar before leaving for work,
he had to leave home early that day and figured he would take the reading when he arrived, he said."

Well there you have it. Diabetics should check their blood at the same time every day. Since he was leaving for work early he made the logical decision to check his blood when he got to work. Sounds like he was conscientious with monitoring his disease and carrying his medication. Doesn't sound like this was a lapse on his part and his recklessness did not contribute to the 5 kicks to the head he received.

Now the question is should he be allowed to drive in the future with this history.
Checking the same time everyday is fine if you don't plan to drive.
He should have followed his routine of checking before driving.

I don't know the facts of this case, but one fact needs to be noted. If he was hypoglycemic, his blood sugar was low, dangerously low. The insulin he was carrying would have lowered his blood sugar even more. He should have eaten or drank something to bring up his sugar level. Blood sugar is very unpredictable in diabetics, it could drop unexpectedly. It is not always practical to take a reading right away. I understand the police have a job to do. Obviously this seems to be excessive force. What is unnerving is to hear the officer laugh about it after.

Unfortunately it's not as simplistic as that. His routine was not checking before driving, but checking at a certain time of day (probably twice a day). This is as recommended by most physicians. We don't know his history of severe hypoglycemia and to suggest what his glucose monitoring routine should have been without the facts is presumptive.

The bottom line is "people with diabetes should be assessed individually, taking into account each individual’s medical history as well as the potential related risks associated with driving." " Certain people with a history of severe hypoglycemia may be encouraged by their health care provider to use continuous glucose monitoring systems that enable them to detect a trend toward hypoglycemia before glucose levels fall to a level that will affect safe driving."

There aren't enough facts to judge him for failing to test in advance of driving. It's pretty easy to judge the cop who was kicking him in the head when he was down....and then joking about it.
He claimed he usually checked it before going to work, not at a particular time.
That is why I said he should have stuck to that routine.

Was it proven what the cop was laughing about?
Looked excessive to me
Good to know las vegas/clark county does not use dasboard cameras

I agree 100% ! Was it really a situation that called for that brown shirt dirt bag from Henderson to kick a semi-comatose person numerous times in the head with his goose stepping boots ? Especially when said person already has 4 officers on top of him, one of whom is breaking his ribs with his kneecap !

Did this diabetic ever flash a gun ? A knife ? Come at the officers in a threatening manner ? Even use abusive language at them ? HELL FUCKING NO ! Henderson PD overreacted (something they are damn good at) and beat the hell out of an innocent man.

How can you people on the LVA defend the Henderson police ? Unless you are married to one of them....or is putting out for one of them.....You have no right to defend them. This is dashboard video from a POLICE CAR.....not from Joe Q. Public. The proof is right there before your very eyes.

This tax paying citizen deserved to be protected by the very same police that beat him half to death. He was having a medical emergency. Same as if somebody was having a heart attack, stroke, or severe asthma attack while driving. The HPD cars have the motto painted on them "To Serve And Protect".

Unfortunately, Henderson PD's motto is: "To Beat The Living Shit Out Of Those Who Are In A Medical Emergency And Pose No Threat To Us"

Don't believe me ?.....take a look at that video again. And keep watching it till it sinks in your thick skull. Please tell me......at what point of that video does he become a threat to those officers ? And at what point in that video does he deserve to be gang beaten by 5 officers, some of whom break his ribs and tried to fracture his skull ? At what point ?????

I'm waiting.....
Your rudeness does not constitute a response.
I've given my opinion and stand by it and did not have to result to insulting those I don't agree with.
