Washington D.C. May Have To Obey the 2nd Amendment

"A federal judge has declared that one of the District’s principal gun control laws is unconstitutional and ordered that its enforcement be halted.
[In announcing a decision in Palmer v. District of Columbia] Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr., . . . a senior U.S. District judge said that, based on recent decisions, 'there is no longer any basis' to conclude that the city’s 'total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home is constitutional.' ”

Although there is some dispute over whether the ruling takes effect immediately, or is delayed pending appeals, the citizens of the Nation's Capitol appear likely to be permitted to exercise their Constitutional right to bear arms.

Hopefully, NJ will be next to obey the 2A.
I find it interesting when Georgia passed their guns everywhere bill they specifically exempted the State Legislative Building. It seems these goons that passed this bill think guns make schools, churches, barrooms and places of employment safer except that is their place of employment. Talk about the worlds biggest hypocritical assholes.
Does Malibber believe that the man who's about to commit murder will not do so because of "anti-carry" laws? I believe that if one is willing to ignore laws prohibiting murder, one is also willing to ignore any and all "anti-carry" laws.

Possibly I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Would be cool if the U.S. Constitution would permit the 650,000 Americans who live in Washington DC to have voting representatives in Congress. That's more Americans than live in Vermont and Wyoming, and those states get full representation.

If these Americans are to abide by US law, they should have a say in what those laws are.

The Congressional Research Office concluded in 2007 "it would appear likely that the Congress does not have authority to grant voting representation in the House of Representatives to the District."

Nonetheless, this sounds like a project to which Chilcoot could apply himself. And, in their wisdom, the Founding Fathers prescribed a method.

How Amendments Are Made

It takes two steps to add an amendment to the Constitution:
Step 1: Proposal - An amendment can be proposed by either a two-thirds vote in Congress, including both the House of Representatives and the Senate, or a national convention made up of two-thirds of the states. All our current amendments were proposed by Congress.
Step 2: Ratification - Next, the amendment has to be ratified. It can be ratified by either three-fourths of the state legislatures or by state conventions in three-fourths of the states. Only the 21st amendment used the state convention method.

Oh, there's no question the U.S. Constitution disenfranchises these Americans. Which is why I wrote the sentence you quoted. "Would be cool if the U.S. Constitution would permit . . .", as I put it.

My proposal indeed is to change the U.S. Constitution, as we do on occasion every 13 years or so. I think Americans should be able to be represented in Congress. Both houses, actually. I know, shocking, right? To me, voting is a far more important right for the Americans who live in our nation's capital to have than the right to lug around heavy weaponry.

But then, democracy's important to me.
Let's all have a constitutional convention. We could fix a lot of stuff!
Does Chilly argue, as a solution, that Obama ignore the Constitution?

DonDiego trusts that Chilcoot's crusade will occupy his time sufficiently to keep him out of mischief-making.

DonDiego doubts the recent U.S. District Court decision will result in the residents of the District of Columbia lugging around heavy weaponry. Heavy weapons are typically mounted or self-propelled explosive weapons that are larger than light weapons, . . . e.g. rifles, mortars, and other man-portable stuff. In fact, DonDiego opines they are unlikely to even permit civilians to own man-portable mortars.
