We had a Anybody ever shipped a dog cargo?

Thinking about shipping my 80 pound dog to Vegas rather than drive him cross country. Anyone ever had their dog flown cargo?
My buddy did & the dog while sitting on the tarmac waiting to be loaded on the plane escaped & was running all over the airport tarmac. The airport was shut down until the the dog was caught.
Airlines don't give a damm if your dog arrives safely. The dog is considered cargo.

Myself, I would drive the dog. I would drive my dog.
You have a rare dog, if he doesn't like riding in the car. Most dogs love car rides, especially when they can stick their head out the window.
My friend used to deliver lost luggage for the airport here in St. Louis. We had to deliver a dog that was "lost" for three days. Drive your dog.

As weather warms up he may be out on the tarmac for quite a while, where it may be extremely warm. The flight crew also needs to be aware of a pet traveling and to change the temperature in the cargo hold, so that it isn't freezing cold. I think it is much more humane to map out pet friendly hotels (or motels) and have a great car trip with him, even if he can only go a few hours at a time.
Most of the domestic airlines have quit accepting dogs in cargo.
Delta does, and has an outstanding reputation.
My 65# great mutt hates the car. What's crazy is that loves to roughhouse, get tackled, and wrestle around..........all the time growling like he's about to kill, yet he would never hurt anyone.

He gets into a car, and his personality changes as he sits like a lump of clay. One second after stepping out of the car, he's back to normal. I'm thankful I don't need to take him on such a trip, as I'm afraid it would kill him.............literally.

I have a friend who owns a business that ships dogs in Atlanta. He owns a kennel located at Hartsfield, he and his partner run the place and it seems they do it very well. Seems they care a lot for how the dogs are tteated.

Last we flew to Tahoe from Dulles, there was a girl who had this little scruffy dog and she carried it on the plane, thing never made a peep the entire trip. I had no idea someone could carry on a dog.

I had Row One on an airplane flying from Boston to LAX. I watched this mother and son and Labrador Retriever board. They sat 3 rows in back of me on the other side of the aisle. I assumed the dog was a special needs dog, but it wasn't marked that way. I made the assumption that once they were loaded that the dog was somehow taken off and put in cargo. He didn't make a single peep the whole trip. I don't know how he bothered to hold it, also.

I'm assuming he laid on the floor under their legs.

Usually big dogs (80 pounds would be a big dog) are not allowed in the passenger cabin. I've watched people bring carriers on with small dogs and cats before.
