Now I normally stay for free so I've loosened my parameters a bit. The only rule I have now is to avoid the sweltering hot months of Summer.

Chicken...

Mine is #10 or 11 which ever happens first.
Typically April & October. (Although went for Xmas this year - 2014... won't do it again...too cold).
Personally, LOVE the heat. It's never too hot! (and we've been there at 120 degrees....aaaaah!)
Hate the kids (and "youngster" wanna bees). Go to relax, eat, drink and gamble (and a few shows).
4 weeks tonight we arrive again. Woohoo !
South Point is residence of choice. (All comped of course !)
Is there any better place to vacation than Vegas ? Think not.
Southwest airlines low fare calendar usually dictates when I go!
#1 I get the itch to go
#2 I get permission to go from the wifey
#3 I go to the southwest airlines web site and look for the nearest acceptable low price anywhere from 1 to 6 weeks away (no more) on the low fare calandar. I normally pay around $320 roundtrip so anything under that and I am there.
#4 start making plans to do things in Vegas around the date southwest gave me

weggie
#19 Super Bowl for me. Have missed two of the past 25 or so, it is a great time to be in Vegas

#1 & #5
Also won't go - When it's too bloody HOT!

Vegas is always cooler than my home town, but you won't see me near there in July or August, ever.

Me too! No way will I go in July/August/September. Even if it's comped!
Nor will I go in December. I'm too skinny.
October is great!

Looks like Southwest is the favorite airline.

April/May is fine....
Right NOW would be good.

The air fares have gone up a bit. Funny that the gasoline prices are down, now.
Apples and oranges,I guess.

I just checked room availability @ MSS and The Fremont.
For May 25-29 $33 a night. Mon-Thursday.
MSS is booked up during the same time!
California available for same rate as the Fremont. No in-room coffee but a refer, like MSS.
I want 2 beds,smoking room.
Sam's Town rooms are available and a little cheaper.($29)No free refer.
Gold Coast?Yeah, but more expensive on Wednesday and Thursday. But in-room coffee!
I'll wait for my comp offers.

Room prices double or triple for Fri/Sat.
No free shuttle to-from airport.
Coming from Seattle,Southwest beats Alaska Air prices a little.($226,$240)
Alaska offers more flights to and from(non-stop).
Jet Blue is out of the question.
we try and go 3 times a year, 3 to 4 month increments.

The only time we have never been, nor would consider is New Year Eve...both for price and the number of people.

We try one trip between Thanksgiving and Xmas - based on Price.

We went for a Halloween and LOVED the costumes.
Quarterly, but always in January & October. The other dates are impacted by florist holidays, so don't go around Valentines, Secretaries week, Mother's Day, or prom season. And Nov and Dec are when I have my Christmas Light Show, so never go then. Usually end up March or April and July or August to round out the 4 visits.
Of course, I do fill in with visits to Tunica or the Gulf coast.
25 to 40 years ago (yes, my first Vegas gambling visit was in 1976), it was once every year or two for a national pool tournament (I used to play a little) or a wedding, or at least twice when a friend said "hey Bob, I'm driving to Vegas tonight, wanna go?" and I went...13 hours later we'd be there.

I started making it a focal point of being in Vegas for the Super Bowl in the mid 80's, and I made it out there at least 15 in a row for that event. If you like football, Las Vegas is the BEST place to be for the Super Bowl if you aren't actually at the game!

I had wondered what New Years weekend in Las Vegas would be like, so my first New Years in Vegas was the first millennium (1999-2000). That weekend was three months into my 18-months-in-a-row trips to Las Vegas. I was also there for the second millennium celebration (2000-2001).

That 18-month stretch of flying to Vegas at least once month afforded me a view and actual experience of the city under just about every setting. The city is different when different things are happening in the city. I won't ever go back for New Years. Twice was at least one time too many.

NASCAR week (last week) can be fun if you are into NASCAR racing. I had media credentials and an infield parking pass for the inaugural NASCAR event at LVMS locked up before the Las Vegas casinos, rental car agencies and airlines servicing Las Vegas knew what was happening there. I got a cheap flight, a cheap room, and a cheap rental car reserved within minutes after NASCAR made the official announcement for that event. Within a couple days, everything got stupid expensive. Las Vegas literally ran out of rental cars that weekend! The city is used to accommodating several hundred thousand visitors at a time, but most of those folks don't need to rent a car. When 80,000 or 100,000 people want to go to a site that is not downtown or on the strip, cabs get real expensive!

These days, I go to Las Vegas for work at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, NHRA Drag Racing, usually April, sometimes October. I also try to attend the CCGTCC (Casino Chip and Gaming Token Collectors Club)convention at the South Point in June.
